Welcome AngelBella1231! I'm sure you will find comfort here. As for the black crayon - I haven't heard about it before? Check in often - the chats are very supportive!

I teach children with ADD/ADHD. Sometimes, when they feel emotionally out of control, we have them scribble instead of acting out. I don't know if it's a therapy, but it does seem to help. (Never used a particular color, though).

How funny is that? I'm looking at grad schools to get my Master's in Art Therapy. My Bachelor's is in Fine Arts so I'm reading a book on art therapy and the exercise I'm procrastinating on doing is cribble therapy-no joke, my book is marked at that page. Guess I really am supposed to do it. A friend of mine asked if I'd been doing any art therapy for myself and reminded me it's been over a month since I've drawn or painted.

The deal is: The very first marks we make as a child are scribbles, so it is an immediate and uncensored way of releasing unconscious conflicts in visual form. The black crayon is not a specific tool in the book that I've read yet, but I imagine being black it helps to release extreme tension or agression.

It is helpful to do some relaxation exercises or deep breathing briefly before you begin to clear your head of all the misc. stuff going on. You can start drawing with a particular question or frustration in mind or not. You scribble on a piece of paper(bigger is better so your emotions you're releasing aren't confined). You can scribble all different ways-with your eyes closed, both hands or non-dominant hand for @ 30 seconds or until you feel it's complete. Look at the scribble and see if you find dominant shapes, an image, patterns (turn it around too to look) from there, color in, add details, etc. Don't forget to stand back. Once you're done, see if I title comes to mind and some phrases about it to journal. You can hang it on the wall and see if anything else comes to mind to add in your journal. This helps bring the underlying emotions that are difficult to access otherwise to understand what's going on in there.

So I'll let you know how mine go, ok? Have fun!

Justme,

There isn't a chatroom, but if you look for the "Anybody Awake, discussion no topic," dated for each day, it's pretty close - depending on if others are on. It's always great to be on in a "live" discussion. I feel I've really come to know others better this way.
