I think being bored is not having or can't find, anything to do. Depression is when you don't want to do anything, even things you used to enjoy. I get bored too sometimes, then I find something to do - just to keep myself busy. Some of us just do better if we are constantly doing something.....maybe to keep boredom at bay? Also, if you are bored...that is when your mind goes places it shouldn't -and that can lead to depression I think.

Yes, there is a difference being bored and being depressed.

Boredom is low-grade anger. Try this: Next time you are bored, ask yourself the question, "What am I angry at?" and see what answer you get. If you don't get an answer, keep asking until you do.

Depression, is, well, depression. Some say it is anger turned inward. But for the sake of this conversation, I don't think so. Depression is a whole other thing unto itself.

I believe boredom can be depression. If we're unable to find comfort, joy in anything, it's difficult to come up with anything to do, or the motivation to do it. A lack of passion. It could be depression.

For me, I get board, but depression doesn't always settle in. Other times I will not leave the house unless its "safe" outside.

I definitely feel bored more often when I'm depressed. To me, boredom is the inability to entertain oneself. Anhedonia, I think is the operative term. I am rarely bored, but when I am, it almost always accompanies depression.

Side note: I've often thought there is a connection between feeling bored and having writer's block.

For me bored and retorical go hand in hand. I get bored with the things that need to be done day by day by day. To the point that I just don't want to do them because they are BORING. I can still get up, work, shop, and watch tv perfectly fine.

Depression? Well, depression is the dragon, in my mind, I try not to wake. It's overwhelming, all consuming and puts a dark pressure over everything. With depression, I can't do anything. It takes all I have to go to the bathroom, to shower, to eat, and some days...even to keep breathing.

I fear a lot of stupid things, I'm paranoid of a lot of stupid things, But I DREAD my depression ever coming back. I would rather...............But I'm not supposed to say it.

I've been practicing

You cannot change the future because you don't know what it holds until it is here, then it becomes the past, and why worry about the past since you cannot change it.

I am only as strong as those who support me.

Please note that I have lots of opinions and I have no qualms as to letting you know them, whether you agree with me or not is your opinion.

Ditto on the breathing comment, Edyn. Its a horrifying thing to have to remind your self to "breath in, breath out, breath in....." Its actually painful. Depression isn't just being sad, it really can manifest in physical pain! It can hurt to open your eyes, it can hurt to swallow your food, it just hurts to live.
