Is anyone else here an abuse survivor who has been accused of over thinking/over analyzing comments and questions made to them?

PLEASE DO NOT share your abuse story here as it can TRIGGER other members. Please ONLY SHARE what comments and/or questions you have over analyzed.

I think we over analyze because our abusers were so unpredictable. Then over analyzing just became a habit that we may not even be aware of and that seems perfectly natural and reasonable to us.

I do that all the time. It is born out of anxiety, fear, needing approval. Things I can't talk about here because we were told not to share other than the above. Things are not so cut and dried as they would appear.

i am accused of and at other times thanked for "reading between the lines" all the time. some in my life have even called it obessesing, though I'm sure my brain is trying to pick apart some clue that will make it all better.(the current problem not the original one).

All a matter of opinion, isn't it? Everyone does know the old saying about assumptions, don't they? I also think i am actually more intelligent than some people.

Arauna, you are one of the people I was worrying about triggering. I am sure there are others here as well.

I guess I am one of the lucky ones... I block out most all of the traumatic events in my life and even speak of them in the third person, as if they didnt really happen to me. I do however obsess about conversations and what people have said to me, I have ocd so that might be where that is coming from.

Hey manicmetoo, just because you block out and remember things as happening to another person, doesn't mean that what happened has no effect on you. These traumas can affect your ability to trust people, your ability to have a sense of self, your ability to express disagreement with others, as so many other things.

It is also possible that you OCD could be a response to the abuse, you just don't know.

I also found out recently that i am a rapid cycler (by DSM IV definition) and suffer mixed episodes, but i was never told this. I had to look at my medical records to find this out.

well duh. Doesn't everyone do this? No really I'm just kidding. But yes I do this all the time. My boss told me that I have a gifted mind and I must have a high IQ. At first I took that as a complement, but thinking it over I was wondering if it was just a polite way of saying 'Your crazy and you scare the freaking shit out of me'. Which I was told by an assistant manager. I laughed at him and told him that I was taking that as a compliment and thank you I've been practicing.
I've been practicing

You cannot change the future because you don't know what it holds until it is here, then it becomes the past, and why worry about the past since you cannot change it.

I am only as strong as those who support me.

Please note that I have lots of opinions and I have no qualms as to letting you know them, whether you agree with me or not is your opinion.

Anyone wish to comment on whether the think over analyzing is due to a lack of confidence/fear or to greater intelligence. Possibly even a little of both.
