I've been prescribed Topamax today for my BP1 and wanted to know what everyone thought of this medication. I was on Respirdal which I thought I liked at first, but realized it was just numbing me out (as well as affecting my eyesight terribly). I'm also interested in Topamax' reputation for weight loss as I've put on some weight from the various medications I'd been prescribed over the past year or so.

Any thoughts?

Eddie

hey randomeddie,

i have been taking topomax for a while now.i got it because i gained a lot of weight too and was told hopefully it would help me loose weight.right now i am on a very low dose.now i would love to tell you that it works but i am not sure sence there could have been a numbe of reasons why i lost weight.i stopped talking the med that made me gain weight(big mistake)and i also had a very bad stomach infection.but anyway i love to think that it is the topomax sence i would love to loose a lot more.i gained 100 pounds.only lost 16 so fare.

i hope it works for you.my doc really believes in it.

good luck

sybille

I took Topamax and it gave me suicidal thoughts. Called my pdoc right away and got off of it. That was my experience with it.

I've been on Topamax for quite a while and it will make you loose weight. I know that I have lost quite a bit. I take mine at nite so I'm not sure of the numb feeling. I can tell you until your body gets used to it some things will taste different but it goes away as soon as your body gets used to the med. It only happened with pop for me. But hey I needed to cut back on the pop anyway so it was no big deal to me. Smile I tried the risperdal and I didn't like it at all. But I do like Topamax alot.

I'm on 100mg of Topamax for migraines and to neutralize weight gain from meds. It hasn't really made me lose any weight, but it has halted weight gain which is nice. Carbonated drinks do taste different, but I'm not a soda drinker anyway.

Thanks for the responses everybody. Yeah, I have noticed that soda pop tastes very different since I've started taking Topamax. Weird...
