I'm sorry but why has your doc left it up to you as to how much to take? I think that's very unusual. I took seroquel for less than a week and put on 12 pounds so they took me off of it. But everyone is very different. I'm sure someone else will be able to help out alot more than I can. I hope it works better than the prozac for you. Keep us posted.

My old pdoc used to do the 25-100 thing with seroquil. It's not that unusual. Probably has something to do with the lack of pdocs in BC. As for side affects and stuff...I guess the worst was feeling 'drugged' all the time. Although I now take 600mg of Seroquil XR and the drugged feeling is not there so much. I does make me sleepy though. Last night I got 16 hours of sleep. Cause I just 'couldn't' get up.

Same here, my pdoc told me to start at 25mg and take the strength that works for me (I'm taking it for sleep). He recommended between 25mg-200mg, and I took 50mg for a long time. Now I'm up to 100mg, and I've been on this strength for a long time.

It really works to make me tired, so I don't get insomnia anymore which is great. If I don't eat when I take it, it makes me feel really weird. Very tired and kind of headachy when I stand up. I have to look down so I don't feel sick. So I either eat or don't get up Smile

A lot of people on this board seem to do really well with Seroquel. My pdoc put me on a high dose because she said that it needs to saturate the area of the brain it affects (something sciencey like that). I think the dose was too high.

It made me feel flu-like during the day and after I took it at night my throat and nasal pathways would close up to the point where I'd have to take those nasal decongestant sprays.

Also, I had auditory hallucinations. I am not on the schizo spectrum or anything, so that was bizarre.

I took 350mg for about 3 months, I kept over sleeping work when theyd schedule me at 6 a.m. Plus Id wake up feeling drunk. I fell down the stairs 2 times, Seroquel worked for me but it made me feel like i was the walking dead on such a high dosage leading my mother to even ask me one time if anyone was home in my head.

Ditto the oversleeping. Ditto the weight gain and, thinking about it, possibly the hallucinations too. Couple of weird experiences in seeing something in the corner of the room and hearing horror-film like voices coming from it. The things you experience through bp and its treatment hey! Now down to xr 100mg

Sedated feeling and sleeping to long is one of the biggest complaints about this med. Alot of us combat it by taking a stimulant. For me I take provigil and it works for the day time sedation, but I am still sleeping 10 to 12 hours a night. I am trying to set the alarm and take the stimulant and go back to sleep hoping it will wake me, this has only been a couple of days.

As far as weight gain another problem with this med, I dont have any. I do however take it at bedtime and go straight to bed, as I think after taking it that it makes you hungry. It also upsets my tummy at times which probably helps with the weight issues. I am about 20 lbs over weight and havent been loosing, although havent been trying very hard either. Also causes me constipation which I take 2 stool softners daily for.

Hey, yeah, I've been on it a while. I'm on 200 mg now (was 300 mg till we tried something else). Doc agrees that Seroquel is THE med for me. It sedated me really badly for about the first 6 months. Now that sedating feeling is gone, and I have no trouble at all waking up. My biggest problem with it is weight gain. It makes me hungry/want to eat. That's why I tried to get off of it, but it controls my difficulties so well, I came back to it, despite the weight gain. I'd rather be functioning, alive and doing while fighting my weight, rather than skinny and in a hole in the ground.

Sooo...all in all? Positive rating...LOL.

I'm an Advocate

I was prescribed this med about 3 years ago and it didn't help me at all. I was on this med fo 3 months and the only thing that happened was that I gained 23 lbs. in what seemed overnight!

I know that this a common side effect, but be careful! I wouldn't recommend this Rx.

Hope that this helps you out.

Take care!
