My wife recently filed a claim for Disability due to her Bipolar. She has never done well with working and we have found over the past few years the more she works the worse her symptoms become. She frequently has to miss work or take extended leaves of absence. There is never any stable income.

At any rate her claim was denied. I am asking does anyone have any experience with getting disability for Bipolar? Any experience filing an Appeal? Any advice for us?

I haven't had any experience with disability but just wanted to encourage you to keep trying and not give up! There are some here that have been through the process. The group posted above is an excellent source for information to! YOu are welcome both here and there!

I have written fairly extensively about my SSDI denial. Like Sarahtroy said, check out the group. You will find lots of info there. You can also PM if you need any clarification of any of the posts i created. I have learned a great deal from the forum and my 11 page denial letter.
My main leadership role is to listen, encourage, and keep the peace....It isn't to give medical or legal advice...Please note...I am not a Doctor...nor an expert...I am here for the same reason all of you are...to receive and give encouragement.

They almost always reject the initial request. It's a good idea to get a lawyer for the appeal. Maybe your wife's doctor could refer you to one.

I was recently approved for SSDI about a month ago. I went through a local attorney who was very well known in the area. That's what you could do for you're appeal.

I got a lawyer, denied first time. Took 2 years to get before the judge but I got it. It took so long because I live in an area which is very heavily populated.

Something I found out recently is that people who don't work or may not work enough for SSDI may qualify for SSI which is different but the people at the Soc Sec group might be able to tell you the difference.
