MDJunction to me

Sylvia4648"I have suffered from depression most of my life, but had some long, non-depressed times. The last 16 years have been an on-going, constantly worsening nightmare for me medically, socially and with my family. 11/2008 to the present has been the worst time in my life, and new things just keep piling up. During that time I’ve gone from being mostly homebound to being totally homebound due to the errors of about 2 dozen doctors who overmedicated me so badly that I came home w/ 4 conditions I didn’t go in with. I spent months wanting to die, and finding MDJ may well have saved my life. It’s one of the worst feelings to know that nobody on earth needs you for anything; but now that I’ve been a group leader for awhile, there are people here who need me. Thanks MDJ." (Sylvia4648)

I've been talking about how down I've been for the past few weeks. The earliest appt I could get with my psych isn't until next week. She's talked about adding an antidepressant. I considered it, but I know so many people who blame weight gain on them..

I was afraid that lamictal would also. S far so good with the lamictal.

Soooooo who knows of an antidepressant that isn't associated with weight gain?

I take wellbutrin and I have lost weight on it.
* When nothing goes right...go left
* Attach your own oxygen mask before assisting others
* Women are not that complicated. How hard is it to tell us
we are pretty and give us chocolate?
* Be kinder than necessary, for everyone is fighting their own battle.
* Worrying doesn't empty tomorrow of its troubles. It empties today of its strength.

150mg Wellbutrin
75mg Topamax
1 mg clonasapam
and prn

They are all different. I am pretty sure any of them in high doses can put weight on you. I would really look for one that treats my symptoms first. With every antidepressant I have been on I have had to struggle to keep my weight down, but I am not a skinny girl to begin with. If I don't watch my calories I'll gain thirty pounds. I would discuss it with the doctor. I don't see much benefit from my ad. My lamictal really provides me the most benefit.
My experience is no substitute for sound medical advice.

I think perhaps you mean that people complain about the mood stabilizers and antipsychotics like Depakote, lithium, Seroquel, etc. Some of them can cause significant weight gain, you can check it out at the manufacturer's web site.

My pdoc told me that the reason a lot of people gain weight, including myself, on particular meds is because they increase your appetite while making you feel slowed down. If you put the two together you get me sitting on the couch eating ice cream, when I could have a salad and a bike ride. Wink
