Eating disorders are serious business. I suggest you tell your doctor exactly what is happening.

Remember that eating disorders distort your self-image and cause you to think horrible things about yourself. Yes, it is a problem that requires attention, but there are alternative medications, and the problem can be solved. I have eating issues too, but I have learned not to hate myself for them--at least, not too much. You wouldn't hate yourself for a case of the flu; how is this different? It's not your fault.

You are doing the right thing, consulting your doctor. Use your time wisely and calmly, with the main facts, and ask for guidance. You'll be fine. Don't allow the panicky feeling you get over gaining some weight to drive you into a frenzy of stress and anxiety. It's a problem, and for problems there are solutions.

I never gained weight on lamictal only a couple of pounds because I couldn't eat because I was so depressed before I started taking it. What other meds are you on? If you are on something like lithium or seroquel those are more likely something else? Have you checked your thyroid?
My experience is no substitute for sound medical advice.

Hey, I'm on loxapine, zoloft, lamactil, and birth control pill but the birth control pill never made me gain weight! I'm at my wits end! Underactive thyroid runs in my family so not sure if its that or what!

Lamictal helped me LOSE WEIGHT. I think because before when I was hypomanic I could eat a ton. I noticed that I started getting REALLY bloated around the time I started taking it but I had also started taking BC again. I quit the BC and got the non hormonal IUD. The bloating went away. Are you on BC at all? Ortho made me gain 30lbs in high school as soon as I stopped taking it I lost it all so easily.

Lamictal is supposed to be weight neutral. It could be the Zoloft that is the culprit. I would discuss this with your psychiatrist, he will know more of what is causing this weight gain. You want to tackle this because you don't want your eating disorder to pick up again. I really hope he can get this under control. We'll be here for you through this.
