Hi, justme.

Welcome to the forum, glad you found it.

My wife is bipolar. Now she is stable and has qite a ramp up to awake. More than not she gets up in a loving mood now. Back before medication, she just never got up, first you have to sleep to get up. LOL

Are you on medication, seeing a doctor? If you are and having problems regulating talk to the doc about different moods upon awaking.

As far as new and making friends... You have found us. There are many wonderful people here willing to openly discuss everything. I have found many friends here and hope to make more. Checked your other post, to my knowledge (limited at best) there is no chat room I am aware of the format seems to be posting, however, a few days ago a post went out to "anyone awake" this seems to have become the place for no topic conversation.

Glad you are here.

RED

Hi, just and welcome to the group, we are glad to have you here, like Red said there are many wonderful people here on this site, and more join everyday..

As Red said, the current "no topic" link is the anyone awake, we talk about anything and everything in that discussion, I know they (Roy and Alon) are working on getting a chat forum going, just don't know how soon they will have it up and running, they just added 600 or so new forums to the site, so if you have anything else besides the bipolar going on, odds are you will find a group for it.. just use the online support groups button on the left side of the page, and it will take you over to the page listing all the different forums, if you click on the beginning letter of the illness, it will bring up the ones that start with the letter, like D for diabetes.. etc..

Dear Justme,

Thanks for your post.

Years ago, a marriage counselor was trying to help me with some anger issues. In one session he said, "Don't let the sun set on your anger."

Anger is an emotion, and I think the general idea in his suggestion is to work to repair negative feelings each day.

I have often noticed for myself, that if I go to bed negative, I wake up negative. On the other hand, if I go to bed positive, I wake up positive.

There is no doubt that my moods are directly connected to my emotional state. I can't control my moods, but I can repair my emotions by talking about them, by doing something kind for my wife, by diverting my mind (e.g. reading, writing, doing housework).

When I can repair my emotions, it helps to improve my mood. It's not easy for me to do that, so I keep practicing to get better at it.

Thanks again. That was a very good question.

Kindest regards,

Jim

Hi,

I never know what mood, I am going to wake up in. I started a mixed episode in the middle of the night last night. I started ruminating over something that made me mad earlier in the evening.I have been having some baxaar dreams, too.

I do reading, and writing when this happens. It seems take the power out of it.I also take time to pray and meditate in the morning, and have a cup of coffee, before I start the day. I also do things to take care of myself when, I am in a mixed state. I make sure I take time out and eat, get enough sleep, excercise, go sit in the sun. I was told it's good to eat chocolate. It helps produce serotonin.I know some of my triggers, so, I can tell when, I am going to cycle. I take a time out, and breath, pray while I am cycling. I am a rapid cycler. I can cycle a couple times a day. I pace myself, too. I practice cognitive therapy. I try to be aware of my moods, and know that they aren't based on reality. I try to stay objective and not react. I have a therapist, and a pdoc, who, I check in with. If I do all the things, that, I need to do to take care of myself, I have more of a chance of waking up in a peaceful state.

Anyway, I hope this helps,

God bless, Gypsy

gypsy,

that is wonderful advice. i am the same way, i usually wake up at least 3 times in the middle of the night and usually the last time, i mull over things in my past that went wrong. i have a question what is cognitive therapy? does it work? my "cycles" are soo rapid at times that i literally pace the room. i do write alot and that does help.

thanks,

pearcy

Hi,pearcy,

Cognitive therapy is where you practice awareness of your moods, and what your triggers are and are able to do things to help you get out of your cycles. You learn to detache from a situation and see it objectively and change your reaction to it. I am working in a work book on bipolar. When you are in a mood, and have been triggered into a cycle,go write about it, and try to figure our what happened to set you off. For me it's usually about financial fear, fear of abandonment being busy all day without taking time to eat or breath.

I also have a hard time in crowded places. So, if I feel an episode coming on, I can go outside or somewhere peaceful, and breath, or use affirmations, or whatever works to calm me down. I have learned to get quiet somewhere and allow the cycle to happen with out panicking. I just let it roll through my body, and mind, until it let's go. I have been given Ambien for sleep when, I am manic. I took one last night, and it really helped. I also check in with my therapist, and she helps me learn the difference between my bipolar symptoms, and my normal human behavior, and helps me with tools to deal with both.

So, anyway I hope this helps,

Godbless, Gypsy
