MDJunction to me

sleepySheri"in august 2008, i accidentally found this site and i love it. i have struggled with narcolepsy since 1993 and to this day i have never met another narcoleptic in person. to share my story and read the stories of others as well as try to help others means the world to me. i want to thank all those who are there to listen to me and to give me advice...." I hate when my reality is not jiving with my husband's. I can feel like the day went swimmingly, but he is so furious that he barely speaks to me this morning. This is not like him. I have called my doctor for a tweak in meds. He just started reducing my Nortriptyline to try and break the mania, but instead it seems to be exacerbating it. Last night I even had trouble sleeping, but woke up before the alarm this morning. This does not bode well...

Does anyone else have problems with their reality being drastically different than others? Probably a silly question on this forum, but I thought maybe if others shared their experiences I wouldn't feel so alone. Dizzy

I can feel your pain and you are definitely not alone. I'm so messed up that my fiance has one foot out the door and I don't know where the bipolar ends and where my seemingly glaring personal defects begin.

I'm not really sure what to tell you to help because if I did, I wouldn't be in the situation I'm in right now, but just know that you are not alone.

my reality often shifts a bit when I am manic. i will think things like the walls are made of paper, the food in the house has been poisoned..stuff like that. or my hands are too big for me or too small.

othertimes I'll get this diva-like attitude and make everyone around me kinda mad.

hubby knows to get me to call my pdoc(psychiatric doctor) when this happens..to get my meds straightened out. although the last one takes counselling.

Often differences in reality come from using different parts of our brains. If one of us is using their emotional brain and thinking emotionally, and the other is using their rational brain, and thinking logically, it can result in each party having a much different take on the same events.

I think bipolar people do best when they monitor their emotional brain and switch over to their rational brain for most occasions. This does not mean you should not feel, just that feelings shouldn't be the basis of our engagement with reality.

Do you have any sources to go to where I could learn how to do that?
