I have a bipolar daughter who is seven and I know without her meds she can be the meanest little girl around but I know there is a difference with adults. Im deeply concerned about the fact that my boyfriend (ex maybe) mother and her g/f have got him believing that he does not need his meds for his bipolar and therefore he is no longer taking them. Now he is trying to get back into truck driving. I am not sure if he can be a truck driver or not, they (parents) are pushing him into it but I think it is to get rid of him and keep the kids as they have wanted too for awhile. Why would parents want their kids to not take meds?

denial, would be the first reason.or maybe he is teling them the meds make him feel worse than the illness itself.usually does though.but he may be exagaerating the situation.probably your b/f doesn,t believe he needs the meds more than his family.he justs needs someone to agree,so he can feel justified for stopping them.

Hi Robs, He told me he needed his meds and it made him feel more normal. I am at such a loss. The mothers partner is a bi polar who also does not believe she needs meds. I am so close to running and I dont want too.

Boy, you are just surrounded by unmedicated BP - life must be hell! If he thinks he needs his meds, I don't understand how his mothers gf can talk him out of taking them. See if he will go on Truehope. (Maybe the mom's gf can go on it too?) It's worth a try and won't make him any worse. At least he'll be getting vitamins and minerals that support brain function. I'm taking it and I'm not BP. It's helping me with ruminations about my suspected BP bf who disappeared and cut off all communication almost 3 months ago.

BTW, I would think that truck driving would be a terrible profession for someone with BP. BP is more under control with regular sleeping and eating patterns and healthy foods and, from what I know about truck driving, the hours are horrible, the guys go way too long w/o sleeping and the food is unhealthy and unavailable. Your guy would do better with a 9-5 job or one where he could set his own hours like being a real estate salesman or mortgage broker or consultant of some kind. Even maybe something he could do from home would be good. Or something outdoors like landscaping or auto repair or dog walking/training (don't laugh - those people make $45-$75/hour).

I would never laugh and I think he told me that he was into landscaping at some point prior to meeting me. He seems to be hell bent on what he wants to do and sees no consequences. Thanks for your reply.

Someone that will not take their meds because of their family even though they admit they need them has self esteem issues, what is this Truehope med/vitamin? before anyone with bipolar takes it, they need to check with their doctor about it, even vitamins can effect the way your medications work..

See the post that Storm put up on Truehope - she posted links to the Youtube video of the Discovery Channel Special on it. It's a natural treatment for bipolar that's been studied at Harvard. Developed by two guys in Canada, one whose wife and two kids have BP.
