So, I've been having invasive thoughts off and on that are not consistent with my character. But, it's frustrating because they manifest themselves as my own thoughts. It's like a really sick mind trick that is very distracting or a demon that is haunting me. It is manageable when I'm not under stress, but when I'm in a working environment per se the unwanted thoughts become intensified. It is extremely annoying. I wanted to write this blog to see if other people experience something similar. I'm not sure what category this falls under, but these are the symptoms.

Hello and welcome,

Are you on an antipsychotic? Normally being on one would vacuum up such stuff.

What are usually called racing thoughts are a symptom of mania. It would also be useful to know your mania control strategy, as far as meds, e.g. mood stabilizers, benzodiazepenes, antipsychotic...

Let us know, and we'll see if we can offer some advice and solidarity with you.

My anti-psychotic Abilify takes care of my racing thoughts. Are you on one? I don't know what I would do if I wasn't on my Abilify. My head was always full of stuff so I couldn't concentrate. I would tell your psychiatrist your symptoms so he can treat it accordingly. Communicate very closely with your psychiatrist so he can give you the best treatment you can get. It's very distracting, these thoughts and I hope you can squash them very soon!

i don't have racing thoughts but have experienced intrusive thoughts. they were almost always really disturbing things. like something i heard, like a child abuse story or something. it would get stuck in my head and play over and over agian. i was on anti psychotics for years and they helped that. i'm not taking them now and the thought come sometimes now but not real bad.

I'm not sure what to call my thoughts but my brain cannot keep up. I start a sentence and cant remember what it was going to be and when I'm halfway through I forget the point. Its embarrassing as well as frustrating to myself and my family.

One problem that is solved by my meds AND very hard work was I couldn't focus long enough to enjoy sex. My husband will never forget how I started talking things unrelated to each other during sex and it took him out of the mood. He doesn't know I have bipolar. He thinks its my ADHD.

Auraloo1 in another thread you shared the painful sounding story of what happened when these intrusive thoughts got out of control. I think, if you are starting to have them, even if they are just whispers, that in light of your history you should consider contacting your doctor.

I hope you have relief from them soon.
