MDJunction to me

"All I can say is that this has been the best place ever. It has been six to seven months since I joined, and I have learned so much. I now believe in myself and accept myself on a completely different level. The people on MDJunction has been so supportive and accepting that I have been able to adopt it into my personal life. That has reduced a lot of stress in my life. Thanks to all." (bunnyfly)

I just got the okay from my doctor to take time off work for a bipolar episode, but I am a little nervous about what to tell work. I know I can simply say "due to a medical situation". But I'd like to give them more info.

Simply, I want to tell them either "stress" or "depression".

If I tell them stress, then that may imply that I am not compotent to perform the job that I am there to do. Ei there is no curable entity that may allow me to get back to work. But at least it doesn't signify that I have an illness.

If I say depression, than that explains a lot of my behaviors, and once I am 'cured' I should be back to be able to perform my job 100%. But I feel the (very unfortunate) stigma will always be attached.

Does anyone have advice? I have to go in there tomorow.

Thanks a lot!

Just tell them you were under the weather...you do not have to go further than that...good luck...let us know how it goes.

give yourself some time. time to figure out what your medical diagnosis is. talk to your psychiatrist and figure out what you need to do. you have time - use that time to understand what you're going through....use it to make the right choice for you.

I lie. lol When I am having symptoms related to my bp, ADHD, or social anxiety disorder that causes me to stay home, I tell them I have a really bad migrane. So that is my excuse. I like the migraine excuse because migraines can be triggered by anything and so can my bp. So it fits.

So it has just been accepted that I have migraines ( forgive me Jesus) and it can be triggered by anything causing me either to call in or go home.

Hope this helps you...

When I had to take a leave of absence from work because I was in an inpatient hospitalization facility, there was no reason given. You don't have to give a reason. All you have to have is a doctor saying that you can't work for a certain amount of time. My work never knew what happened with me and I eventually had to leave because I couldn't work at all. Again, no reason was given, I just couldn't work.

My advice? Tell them that your doctor feels it necessary for you to stay home for awhile for medical reasons. It's no ones business what's going on with you and you don't have to justify your doctor's orders.

400 mg Lamictal
300 mg Wellbutrin
60 mg Geodon PRN
50 mg Valium
40 mg Ritalin
2 mg Haldol
25 mcg Cytomel

Avoid the stigma at all costs in your work environment. My doc. also diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia, which often goes hand in hand with Bipolar and that is the only medical info i ever give ANYONE. I won't let my privacy be invaded and allow others to persecute and crucify me just because they are brainless idiots who think that this illness is a matter of willpower or choice.

If you experience body aches and pain and are extremely weak at times, if it seems to come and go-like a flare up when you are very stresses or depressed-you may want to check it out.

The shoulders, back of the neck, pressure points along the shoulders, lower back, hip and knee joints and muscle fatigue are what i notice most when it flares up. Usually lasts a day or two. I used to assume it was from sleeping too much but that stiffness was something more.

If you continue to give no reason, and continue to miss work ( calling in, leaving early, etc.) rumors will eventually start about why you are not at work. This can lead to many problems, including a hostile work environment. This is why I use the excuse of migraines. I don't want people speculating as to what is wrong with me.

Do you have an HR person? That's who knows here at work for me. I brought a note from my Doctor, he did ask if I wanted to put something like emotional disorder, but I said no, put BP as I had already told her. They were trying to get me to work 12 hour days (I am salaried) and I can't handle that. So there is a note on file, but only for her eyes. This also protects my job, as BP is on the list for ADA
J-ROCK, it ain't AM, it ain't FM, she's BP all the way!

Meds:
Trileptal 1200 Mg
Geodon 40 Mg
Lexapro 20 Mg
Wellbutron XL 300 Mg
Topomax 50 Mg
Concerta 36 Mg
Klonopin .5 Mg as needed
