I am diagnosed with ADHD and depression. Someone, not a profesional but someone who is farmiliar with mental health, was saying to me that it seems odd ot have both of these diagnosis because they are complete opposites. I was thinking I might have bipolar and ADD because I def have trouble paying attention most of the time if i am not medicated but there are days i am all sad and days i am supper hyper. I do not know what is happening. does anyone know if it is possible to be depressed and adhd or does it seem like i have bipolar and should I ask my psyciatrist.

You should definitely talk to your psychiatrist or a psychologist about this. I am not a Dr. or Professional so this is from past experience only!I went many years ago to a counsoler and he told me that it sounded as tho I had ADHD. The counsoler and I did not match up, he was just a lil odd to me, (without even meeting my husband, he told me to divorce him), soo, i quit going to him. And never pursued anything about the ADHD. In and out for the past 8 years of going to my dr. for what we thought was depression..Antidepress. never worked. So I went to a psychologist, and told her my past. And about the counsoler that said I was ADHD. She said that the symptoms are so similar and some Dr's will diagnose ADHD before Bipolar.

Like I said, that was just my experience. Not saying that this is what is happening for you.

My name is Amber, Im 30 years old..Married for almost 12 years to my wonderful husband (together for 14). We have 2 children boy/girl. I have recently been diagnosed having Bipolar II.
Im glad to have found this website..I have lots of supportive people in my family. There is nothing else like having people to come to that truely understand, exactly what you are going thru or feeling!

Good morning to you both,

I have a daughter and grandson with adhd and add. My duaghter deals with depression big time. I always was told they can go hand in hand.

When your told by someone something that doesn't quite seem right, your the one whose probably right.

Keep checking for a good doc.

I'm not a doc and I'm not God, but common sense helps us thru a lot. Also, I may be wrong....no I can't be wrong, I'm never wrong LOL!! Just being a little silly

Again I am not a professional but am only going off of my past experiences. I was diagnosed for years as bipolar then ran into a psych who had years of experience tell me that I was not bipolar but rather ADD and depressed. He treated me as such and we had so so results until the mania presented it self. Then the bipolar showed its ugly head and I began self destructive behavior despite the treatment. I am now seeking treatment as a bipolar and though I still experience my share of problems I think it is the better road for ME. I can't give advice for you but only share the experience that I have witnessed and gone through. I wish you the best on your journey.

Hello..Im wondering if ocd has anything to do with bipolar1.I have noticed for the past couple of days, that I find my self rechecking everything. For example I hung some clothes up and every 5 or 10 minutes,I get up and recheck them again.Or wherever I sit stuff I have to go check them again. Not sure if its my meds or not.Or if ocd is creeping up on me.Anyway just curious..Southern10

I found some stories about adhd, add, and its counterparts.. youtube.com search for add, adhd and dr rashid buttar..they talk about vitamins and a website called truehope.com where they have a supplement called empowerplus that helps bipolar problems, and they talked about L-theanine for add, adhd,.. I encourage you to research it..
