Why wear a ribbon?

"I wear the green ribbon for bipolar disorder." (nickonoodle1)

MDJunction to me

Macv"For me, MDjunction has been a place where I can share my experiences
living with the very rare bone disease called Ollier's ( Enchondromatosis ) with the parents of children recently diagnosed. I can help them not to run
into the pitfalls my parents did when I was young, give them a bit of a view
from their child's perspective and simply be there to offer support and
hope to people who are scared and just had their lives upended. I also belong to a chronic pain group and it's been a Godsend to be able to actually
talk with others who understand what I'm dealing with. Besides them helping me through my tough times, I can be there to help them as well. Here too, I can use my years of experience to help others avoid pitfalls and it makes me feel good, gives my life more purpose. MDjunction brings people
together when their suffering, at their darkest and feeling alone in this world and allows some light to be brought back into their lives. HOPE, that's what
MDjunction means to me!

Hi everyone,

I have bipolar ii and borderline personality disorder. I recently found this forum and have been wondering where it's been hiding! Everyone seems so nice & supportive. I look forward to giving & receiving lots of support & encouragement.

I wanted to share something exciting with everyone, because it affects us all...

Recently I discovered the Heinz C Prechter Bipolar Research Fund (to the best of my research they are the only group researching bipolar); they are leading the way in bipolar gene research to find the cause and eventually the cure for bipolar! How great would that be??!!

Anyway, my contact at the Fund recommended a documentary to me, "Boy Interrupted". That got the wheels turning... I met with one of the student leaders at my college & we're planning a month long campaign for Bipolar Awareness for the month of February! Apparently she wanted to create some events such as this, so when I brought the idea up to her, she jumped on it and changed her original cause to Bipolar Awareness!

We're going to have a movie screening of "Boy Interrupted" and a very short (and small) panel available for people to ask questions.

We're making great headway, gang!

Hope this excites everyone!

Have a great day. Smile

Silly Smile

Welcome to the group! I think you will find it to be a great outlet and will receive a great deal of support here.

I think that educating others is a great thing. Congratulations and thank you for sharing this wonderful news. Let us know how it goes!!!

I've seen "Boy Interrupted" -- so, so sad. Some of the strengths of the documentary was the knowledge and intelligence of the parents, and all the video footage.

What part of the country are you in? Sounds progressive. Not at all like here.

Welcome, and keep us posted!

thanks so much for welcoming me to the group! Smile From what I've already read, this seems like a very awesome place!!

I will definitely give you all the updates about the event!

ZadieBlue- I would say that it's probably a 50-50 on people being open and accepting vs those who stick to their stigma-guns. We still have some mountains to overcome over here in Idaho, but I'd say we're on the right track.

notmyillness, I want to welcome you to the group. I hope you will make yourself at home. I think it's great that this event is going to take place and I hope it's well attended. An awareness month is such a great idea. Raising people's awareness of bipolar and encouraging them to try to more accepting of those with this mental illness is a much needed goal. Thank you for taking that on where you live.
