Hello everyone,

I switched to Geodon from Seroquel as I was gaining a lot of weight and my sex drive dissapeared. I was taking 60 mg of Geodon at bedtime and was feeling great except for the urge to move my tongue around a bit.

I am already dropping weight and the drive has returned.

I met with my doc and he said that at the dosage i was on it acted as more of an antidepressant. i was feeling great.

He doubled it to 6omg of Geodon in the morning and 60mg about 4pm. I had what I call an 'attack this morning and it was frightening. It was the Akathisia or jitteriness but very very severe. i did all I could to calm down, several baths but finally took an ambien which brought me down and I was able to sleep a few hours and felt better.

Has anybody had this happen, does it go away or lessen? I love the med for the anti weight gain and sex drive but I can not go throught that again.

Scott

I am on Geodon as well.. except I think I'm on 160mg *not quite sure, so don't quote me on that*. I get the jitters sometimes too. Sometimes where I just can't sleep. However, seeing how you were fine before the increase you may want to talk to him about decreasing back down to where it was. It may just be your body getting used to it, but I doubt it will go away.. mine was like that when mine was increased and it didn't go away.. it was horrible. So I definitely understand where you are coming from on that. Good luck!

I didn't have that experience with Geodon, but I did have Akathisia when I was in the hospital and the nurses and orderlies all thought I was "med seeking" when I told them how much anxiety I was having and they wouldn't give me anything for it. It never really did go away the whole time I was in the hospital and no one noticed it and called it Akathisia. It wasn't until after I got home and saw my regular doctor that she told me what it was. It was the most horrible thing I've ever been through. It got to the point with me of an almost parkinsonian affect where I couldn't straighten my arms and would have uncontrollable jerking in my legs when I laid down. I was on Abilify but I've heard Geodon can do that, too. If it is Akathisia, it won't go away on it's own, they will have to prescribe something to combat the side effects, somthing like Cogenten (sp?). I only took Geodon for about two days because I started to feel the same thing happening and it scared me so bad that I just stopped taking it. Good luck with this, I hope they find something to relieve your discomfort. Pacing helped me a lot, I couldn't sit still for any period of time, which made it very difficult to sleep, something I did very little of which only made my mania worse. I'm sorry, I'm not trying to scare you, I'm just recounting what happened to me. Be very careful with the antipsychotics if you notice an Akathisia response. Have you tried Risperdal or Zyprexa? I have taken both of those with no noticeable side effects. Just an idea...
In learning to know other things, and other minds, we become more intimately acquainted with ourselves, and are to ourselves better worth knowing.
