Has anyone been successful in using a "Mood Stabilizer" only for their Bi-Polar.

Or is everyone taking a Mood Stabilizer with an Anti-psychotic drug?

I am currently taking

300mg Trileptal

20 mg Geodon

Bipolar I
GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder)

Medications: (Started March 17, 2009)

Trileptal 300 mg / PM
Geodon 20 mg / PM
Ativan 1 mg

Wellbutrin XL 300 mg (stopped on my own - not by pdoc - October 21, 2010)

no, but for a long time i took an anti-dep alone with no mood stabilizer for 10 yr. After 7 yrs my pdoc put me on Klonopin for anxiety. Then finally i was put on Lithium b/c i became manic, that was back in 1996 and have been on same meds all this time.

Bipolar I

Lithium 300 mgs, Lamotrigine 200 mgs, Klonopon (Clonazepam) .05mg more if needed, Clomipramine (Anafranil) 25 mgs, Abilify 5 mgs, Seroquel 25 mgs

right now i'm only on trileptal (sp?) and ativan for my anxiety. i'm not seeing much help with my depression...but at this point i don't think there's much that WILL help with my depression

my friend is on a mood stabilizer only - she's bipolar 2. I'm on a mood stabilizer and an anti-psychotic - I'm bipolar 1.

Nope. I am on a mood stabilizer and an antipsychotic. Gotta have a med cocktail.
Bipolar I with psychotic features.

Lamictal 300mg
Latuda 160mg
Ativan 2mg as needed
Prazosin 4mg (Nightmares)
Percocet 5mg x 5 a day (Severe Headaches)
Oxycontin 20mg Twice a day (Severe Headaches)

I am taking Depakote 1500mg. and Effexor XR 225

That is working for me pretty well, except for the weightgain on Depakote. Sad

I'm not sure which one is a mood stabalizer but I am taking:

Effexor XR 225 mg

Abilify 10mg

Topomax 150mg

Trazadone 50 mg

this are the ones my phych gives me. I am doing better now than I ever have excpet still having some mood shifts so I think I may need some adjustments.

My meds are:
abilify, trazadone, topomax, savella, flexeral, relafin, dilaudid, phentermine, lipitor, cymbalta, nexium, lasix, vitamin D, potassium, metoprolol, and a mulitvitamin.
