So after I called the psychiatrist and made sure they took my insurance the lady just called me and said that they are out of network and I would have to pay $200.00 instead of $30.00!! I was pacing myself to make it until today. I just don't think I can wait any longer. I am crying and I cant stop--I called my insurance and told them and they said they are going to try and get me into an appt ASAP but they said it can take up to 4 weeks some times!! WHAT CAN I DO? I JUST FEEL HELPLESS..

Sometimes my insurance (Aetna) will pay in network for an out of network Doctor if you don't have one within a certain number of miles from your house. You may want to check with your insurance and see if they will do that.

Christym...call your insurance company as ask them if the have a psychiatrist in your area that is in the newwork. Explain that you need to see someone asap and would hate to have to go to the Emergency room (which costs the insurance company more money that a hospital visit). That you need to have an appointment within a week...

Make sure you ask the name of the person who you are talking to at the insurance company. Note the time and date on a folder and keep it handy for follow up calls. Asking the name, makes the person a little more careful of the information they give to you.

If things do get bad, go to the emergency room...let me know how it goes...sometimes you have to be a pain in the rear to get help.

Comments made by me are from my own experience and they are my opinion alone, whose intent is only to share that opinion and not to give medical advice nor discourage from seeking medical help. Medicine is best left to the professionals that is what they do.

Thanks I called the insurance frantically and asked if there was anything they could do and they said since there were in network dr in my area that I would have to go with one of them (Cigna) I told them I couldnt make it that long and they were just really no help. They said they would make me an appt with a therapist so I can at least talk to someone this week but I feel like for once I am reaching out for help and life is just makin it harder than F'EN ever

I agree with Norma, you really have to get after the insurance companies now. And do not hesitate to go to the hospital emergency room. That way you can get help NOW.

Yeah, if you can afford it. My out of network (there is an in network one here but I don't like him) Doc, I had to pay in full till my $1500 deductable was met, then I have to pay $29 each visit. Starts over in January.

But I scrimp for it cuz I really like him.

Oh, and the first visit is usually more expensive. More time.

I would pay the $200...it can go toward your deductible out of pocket for this year. And remember that if you itemize on your income taxes to save all receipts...

If you start with the network doc later you can have your records transferred.

good luck, sweetie...hang in there, i know it is hard..but sounds like you will be getting help soon. and like jr said go to the emergency room if you really are needing it...
