For me it's when sleep is next to impossible, I get to feeling good, better, best, wonderful to the extreme and then I get grumpy and feel uncomfortable around people I generally feel comfortable talking to. Here's a link that describes signs....

Are you feeling manic?

Use2be's list of what constitutes mania is correct. I have been manic and it's definitely not a good thing, though it starts out feeling great. If you do not have the severity of symptoms of that list, then you probably experience the hypomania of bipolar type 2. The symptoms can be similar but less severe. Neither mania or hypomania are desirable because there is inevitably a crash into depression afterward. If you feel you are heading into an episode of either, contact your pdoc because a med tweak may be necessary to corral it so you do not get deeply depressed later.

Use2be has given a good link for mania symptoms.

Over the yrs i've had numerous times where i would be hypermanic and heading very near into becoming full blown-manic...fortunately i was 'always' able to read these signs and i'd know exactly when to contact my pdoc before anything worse could ever happen. I thought i was suffering from 'high anxiety' but it was mania and i did not know it. The pdoc would then increase my med dosages.

Luckily as the yrs went on i was becoming very 'in tune' with these 'highs' when they did arise. I did not know i had bipolar...it's not until 2007 that i found out i actually had bipolar I, soooo...it's been a lot easier for me to recognize these symptoms and now understand what's going on somewhat, i feel very fortunate that i've been able to catch hypomanias before they turn into full-blown mania.

I wish you all the best...feel free to pm me anytime.

Excedrin migraine makes me have manic symptoms. Something about the caffeine and pain reliever combined causes chaos in me. It is important to remember what you are eating, drinking, and consuming as certain stuff can help set off mania. ((hugs))

I'm so confused on what's going on with me right now. I am not manic although last night before bed I sure felt it. I've been feeling like im getting depressed. Been tired all day, even though I get proper sleep. I don't feel like doing anything that i use to. Im just here. But last night before bed I was hyper and anxious and giddy. It was weird. I went from being extremely exhausted to extremely hyper and giddy. I know I should probably call my pdoc before it gets worse, I'll probably call her next week some time. I hate talking on the phone though so its hard for me to do that.

It sounds like you are going through something similar to where I'm at now. I'm really depressed but, my mind is going a hundred miles per hour and I'm still spending stupid money...I've been told it is a mixed episode.

Yeah I'm starting to think it may be a mixed episode. What could cause this? I was doing fine then all of the sudden I'm not. ugh. This sucks.

I called my pdoc, she should call me back after 5pm today. Hopefully.

She called back, she said the reason my mood has been like that is because its hormonal. She said I should be fine soon, when my hormones are back to normal. She goes "Being a woman sucks huh?" lol I'm like "Yeah.." So hopefully thats really the reason im feeling all weird. Stupid hormones. I'm glad I called though, gives me some relief.

That's good news your pdoc called you back. I know the week before my period i can get somewhat low and very sensitive and tired, then the day it starts, wow i'm hoping feeling just great and the good feeling usually lasts that week. So she could be correct there, time will tell, but keep a close eye, maybe even journal your moods daily, just to keep track. Hope you feel better soon, glad you are posting we are here for you if you want to keep posting.

I only get hypo-mania and when I know I'm there, I have those racing thoughts and I'm irritable at everyone and anything. It can turn into anger very easily. I guess I got the short end of the stick. I get no happy go lucky hypo-mania. It does tell me a lot though and I can catch it quickly. I'm sorry you are having mixed states right now. You being so young, you just never know if it's hormones or not. I hope it leaves you soon though. I want you to at a nice level and function like a normal person your age does. In time it will happen. We will be right here with you. You won't be alone. Keep talking to us.
