Hi,

I am new and was wondering if anyone else who works and is bipolar and suffers from anxiety tend to lash out on others when you feel they hurt you first? I pretty much have everyone mad at me at work who do not know about my disorder and it is causing more stress and swings that I feel I am out of control. At fisrt my boss was not aware until I told him. However I tend to get upset and vent those frusturations out to other people who will listen - all work related and know I am getting into trouble for it. Any advice?

To add to my problems my 13 yr old was just diagnosed bipolar as well. She just finished two weeks of outpatient therapy and still working on getting her meds to perform.

Thanks in advance for any similiar experiences or advice.

aka Lilly

Hi Lilly! Welcome to the group. I am glad you are here. I used to have that problem when I worked too. I found that writing down what you were going to say tends to help with not lashing out at others. It is that whole think-before-you-act thing that we all tend to have a little trouble with.

I think reading The Bipolar Disorder Survival Guide would be helpful for you and your teen. Plus, I am moderating a teen's group on this site that your teen may be interested in, especially if she has questions about what she is going through. (Bipolar teens) It just started so there aren't many people in it yet but it will grow before long.

Take care and keep us posted! Hugs, peach

Hi,

Welcome to our site.

I had problems with people at work, too. I would pick out a couple of people at work, who I thought were a threat to me in some way, and create conflict with them. I was very paranoid and suspicious of people in general.

I had a bad attitude about work. I would go through mood swings, and be excited about a job for a month or two, and then go into a depression, and become irritable, and not beable to function very well. It finally ended in a severe depression, and I started rapid cycling after my last job.

I am filing for disability, now, while I am getting help for my bipolar.

After, I get stable, and get more sure of myself, I might beable to work again, without all of my symptoms getting in the way.

Are you on meds? Are you getting help with your bipolar? I have a case worker, that I meet with every week who, I can check in with about any issue, I am having with any area of life. I also have a therapist. I have learned that I need to have a sounding board outside of my marriage, and work, that, I can bring my issues to. I have a tendancy to take my problems out on other people if, I don't. I also journal. I also have friends, I can talk to about this stuff with, too. Having this site to go to for help has been very helpful, too

I hope this helps, Godbless, Gypsy

God Bless,Gypsy

Peach & Gypsy,

Thank you for both for your gals advice and the welcome. Writing out things and journaling seem like a great idea. I am on 300 mg of Seroquel and 6mg of Klonopin.

I do see a psychotheparist and he is awesome. He is the only doctor I have kept for this long. I have seen so many I cannot count them and been on all sorts of medicines, so I can give any advice if someone has questions about any. I am very paranoid when it comes to medicines.

I been inpatient 4 times, outpatient a couple but it is easy to manipulate your way to a discharge. That is when I was really bad off and was on anti-depressants. I went through a self infliction stage, which means now I have to wear long sleeves so no one can see my scars.

I stopped working for 3 years and it was great, but was disqualified for social security, I really hope you get it. When my husbands hours got cut, we got so far behind in debt I had to go back to work which was one year ago. That is when I started having my attacks again and roller rides and found my doctor.

My boss has talked to me about my lashing out, but when you have a couple people you work with from the very beginning treat me ignorgant what do you do? I was told by many that these two have forced 5 girls out of my position. One incident involved going to a meeting and I was in the back seat and he rolled both my windows down and my hair was flying all over the place, on the way back same thing. I asked him if his 5 month minded the wind (smart azz me) when he rode in the back. He stated he don't complain, I then tried to roll up the windows and he locked them. We got back to the office I went off on him. He also don't care for one of our tech's and I called this tech because our client wanted me to have him meet someone, well anyway the tech was cursing and calling people in my department azzholes so forth and his manager walked by and saw that I was on the phone and it was heated. I told him what happened. My boss said to bring this up in his review otherwise he will know where this came from. Well the next day after the guy who did the window thing caught wind of it, they wrote him up and my name was all over the document. I should have kept my mouth shut but it is so hard to do that.

Ok I wrote you both a book, I am sorry. Thanks for being here.

Lilly

Have a great day!

You can vent all you want. That's what we are here for.I am sorry you have such a jerk in your job. I have had to work with jerks, too. Love and tolerance..lol

I hope I get SSI, or I might have to try to go back to work, too.

I am glad you are taking care of yourself. I am on Lamictal, and Abilify.

It's a good balance. It seems to be working for me. I have not had to go to a hospital, yet. I am glad. It doesn't sound like a good place to end up.

Anyway glad to have you on this site, and I hope your job gets better for you.

Gypsy,

Yes good luck on the SSI, they ended up telling me that I could work part time washing clothes. On my list of jobs I use to work for a nursing home doing that. Yeah right, putting my kids in daycare would have eaten that check right up. Again I hope you get it.

I tried both the medicines you are on. The Lamictal once I hit 200mg stage of the starter kit, I had the side effects and the ones I could not tolerate. My period cramps made me cry, I had muscle aches and sores in my mouth. I stopped that drug right away. I am glad it is working for you.

Thanks again for the welcome, it is greatly appreciated!

Lilly

The bad thing about trying to apply for SDI or SSI is they will try to starve you out. My younger brother has MS, epilisey, and was having up to 20 seizures per day and these fools told him he could work, my husband has degenerative back disease and is almost 60 years old, and they are telling him that he can work, he's been denied twice already and we have had to get a lawyer. My brother it took him 4 years, with my husband, I figure he will be old enough to get his SSI by the time they grant his SDI, a waiting period of 4 years also.

If you have been denied once, make sure you file your appeal within the time period that they give you, otherwise you will have to start all over again, after your second denial then you can get a lawyer, and most of the time, that is the only way that you can get these idiots to do anything, make sure you keep track of all hospitazions, doctors and medications, keeping a journal is also a good idea.

I am in the hearing stage. This is where, I have to wait 18 mos. They really do try to starve you out. I have contemplated going back to work, twice. I am determined to go for it. I am patient...lol

Thanks, Gypsy

Yes hold out, because if go back to work they will definitly deny it. I talked to a lawyer the other day about getting SSI because I just can't take this anymore he told me I would be denied because I am working.

*Wishing you the best of luck* Someone who makes the decisions needs to have a signifigant other diagnosed bipolar them maybe they would understand!

Lilly

Carmen,

That is absolutley horrible it took that long. I am glad your brother is getting it now. As far as your husband I understand your probaly right he will be of age. You know we all pay into this why are they so hard on people!

I figure that they are so tough since they have had so many take advantage, but it makes it impossible on those that need it, I am grateful too that my brother finally got it, had he been anywhere else than where he is now, he would have lost everything that he has worked for over the past 20 years, his property holder understood and let him slide, he would pay what he could when he could.
