my names brandon, im 25 and im not really sure what to say. This is my first attempt at some sort of support group thing. I was diagnosed with bipolar I about a year ago and have been on medication about that same time. Im on 200 mg limotrigine. a year ago I had to move home after a pretty bad escalation of episodes. I knew something was wrong when i thought i had a telepathic link with my brother. Grandious ideas, not sleeping, promiscuity etc. haha it feels weird to write that down. this is a sort of venting for me so no real replies are necessary. i think im going to my psych about increasing dose or something. Does bp have a tendency to get worse over time, because i was feeling better once the meds starting working but now i kind of feel like its wearing off or im just aware of the swings now that i can identify them. This is all fairly new to me, i thought i could just take the meds and forget about it. boom, im fixed. but im starting to realize its not something i can put out of my mind. uuuggh. im really starting to hate that i have this. I went on a date recently in over a year. went well, but lost interest quickly. and i realized that im not sure if i could actually have a healthy relationship with someone. what is it like 90% of bipolar marriages fail. im not sure, how its supposed to work. do i try to get myself in check and then find someone. i feel like i would just cause that person pain. i don't know.

I'm glad to hear you are on medications. This is so important. It can take a long time to get the right medication mix and become stable. Don't feel bad since you think the medications are no longer working for you. You just probably aren't on the right ones. Your psychiatrist will probably try out some new ones. Don't give up. It does get better. It takes time, so be patient. As for relationships. Not all work out, but a lot do. The person needs to be educated in bipolar and know what to expect. Plus a lot of love of course. Not all relationships fail, so don't let that sway you. It is a pain to have bipolar, but you will come to accept it. It's part of life. There is no cure, so all we can do is manage it with medications. I don't know if bipolar gets worse over time. I've heard it go both ways. The best answer you will get is from your psychiatrist. Welcome to the group. You will be very happy you joined. This place is great. You will get a lot of support and meet some really nice people.

thank you. its really cool i can read peoples own interpretations of what bipolar is to them and how it is apart of you. I read some where on here about someone who said the line between personality and the disease is very fuzzy. Or maybe there isnt one. These are the kinds of things that i have been wrestling with too. I feel like i have to rediscover a lot of stuff from the new "me". even though its not really new. you know. its very confusing sometimes, i just need to take a step back once in a while. Its just nice to see people working through the same stuff.
