So I got my official enrollment packet in the mail today for my work's insurance. It has a lot more info than the website had. Apparently they are making some changes this year. and for the better.

The plan I can sign up for has an HRA (health reimbursement account). For a family, the company will set aside $1000. That $1000 will go towards medical expenses BEFORE we have to start paying our deductible. Although, it won't cover anything on prescriptions. However, we only have to pay co-pays on prescriptions, not the full price (even before our deductible is fully met). If we don't use up the full $1000 it will roll over to the next year. (but I'm sure we'll use it all) BUT it turns out, the insurance is going to cost a little more than I originally thought. Not a huge deal.

I was looking at the different plans.. the BEST plan available has a $1500 deductible and costs $429 every 2 weeks. (that's for a family) That is INSANE!!!!!

I prefer a FSA (flexible spending account) over a HSA any day of the week. These can be used to cover prescriptions and any out of pocket expenses for most plans. Only downside to them is they dont roll over each year. But if you plan well, you dont loose any money.

yeah, they have HSA too and the company will match however much you contribute up to $1200 for a family. And with our insurance, the money rolls over year to year as well. I don't see anything about FSA.

Good news on the insurance. Over $400 is a lot of money for that plan though. Can you afford it? I have a $1000 deductible. It's through my work and I've been on it for six years. I spend so much money on medical expenses. I am thinking about moving to the HMO though. It's more expensive, but don't have to pay so much out of pocket. I hope you find the one that benefits you the most. I am very happy for you! Especially that it covers medications with co-pay.

No way can I afford the $400 plan! lol

I'll stick with the one for $70 something.

We supposedly have an HMO but when I tried to see if it was available and put in my store number, it said there was no HMO available. So I dunno. I'm not complaining about the $70 plan.
