MDJunction to me

MissNikkiAnn"When you have an illness with the name "Non-Familial Dysautonomia" (a name that most people, and even doctors, have never heard of), you need a network
of people who understand the name and the symptoms/issues that come with it.
MDJunction led me to that network of people during a very confusing and sickly time. For this I am thankful. And for this reason I try my best to give back to other members the same care and help that I received through MDJunction.

I take Abilify and love it. When I get hypo-manic I get angry and the Abilify keeps it in check. Everyone responds differently to each medication, but it works well for me. If you try it, I hope it works out well for you!!

Love the ability... keeps me appropriately up during the day and anger has been a HUGE daily issue for me for 30 years and it seems a bit less.... although I did cuss the UPS lady til a fly wouldn't lite... don't remember what for. But I'm a bit better - I feel it.

Abilify worked wonders for me too,but doc took me off it and said it may cause me to go into mania more often. I started out on free samples of it,and noticed how good it made me feel and how happy I was,all the doctor could think about was he did not prescribe it and I should not be taking it.

I have been on Abilify for over a year and I love it. It does well at keeping mania at bay and I have had no weight gain.

my son has bipolar and aspergers, he is now 16, and a junior in hs, in the 5th grade he was diagnosed and tried on some diff rxs. in 6th grade we found abilify and his life changed drasticaly. with both aspergers and bipolar he had alot of anger and self hating issues after an anger burst. with abilify he felt like himself. and had alot more contrl. some drugs make u feel like your not yourself. so with the abilify i didnt have to fight him to keep taking it because he noticed the diff. and felt better, was able to the things he couldnt before, he use to try to do something and if it didnt go right the first time he would get so angry he would quit. now he can keep going and get it done.

recently he has had some big depressions comeon quick and for no reason, but he has grown alot and so his doc uped the dose of abilify. and a lot of hormones can affect your meds and hey at 16 what can u expect.

now my 12 yr old is going to be on it. i hope it helps her like it did him.

I was on Abilify for I think a year... I did have a bit of mania, but it was nothing compared to my other episodes. For the most part, it just made me very happy. On the downside, I did get a little uppity- which meant I developed tremors in my hands from time to time. If I could afford it, I would definitely go back on it. It's a very good drug. Aces from me!

I took abilify for a week. I had a negative side effect that kept me from taking it anymore, but I hear it works wonders for other people. Once I started taking it, I had days where I would be up for 30-36 hours at a time. So my pdoc took me off and switched me to Geodon. You will just have to pay attention to how you feel and see if it works for you. Good luck!

I have been on Abilify for 4 years. I have been stable every since. I had severe problems with anger and mood swings. However, since being on Abilify those things seem to be a part of the past. I call it my life saver. I was put on Abilify after coming out of the hospital. NOt only has it stabilized me for years, i have also never felt more "normal." I did have a few side effects in the beginning that i thought i wouldn't be able to take, like the feeling of coming out of my skin and restless leg syndrome. However i gave it a couple weeks and it has been the best medicine i have ever been on.

Give it time to work, and get back with us and let us know how it is working for you!!!

I sincerely hope it works just as well for you!!!
