Hi everyone,

I saw my pdoc last week and during our discussion, we talked about what kind of a year this has been for me. For those who may not know, I have bipolar 1 with rapid cycling. I've been dianosed for the past 4 years and am now finally getting used to what it means in terms of my symptoms, etc. Anyways, my pdoc said that this year has not been a "good" year for me so far given the number of manic episodes I've had. Have any of your pdocs told you something similar about your manic and/or depressive episodes? I'm just curious because I've never heard episodes described in this way. Thoughts? Comments? Thanks. Smile

Bipolar I with Rapid Cycling

Mine has never mentioned anything to me about that, but I haven't been diagnosed long enough. Just almost two years. I will have to bring it up to him and see what he thinks about it. I'm sure he tracks my moods by me calling him and by changing my medications and such. Interesting thing to have brought up.

I thought so too which is why I asked. At my appointment, he recommended that I go inpatient, but I refused because I wanted to see if a raise in one of my meds would start working since I was on the latter half of week 2 of the increase. When I think back to my pdoc's comments, I think it was a spur of the moment thing that he said, but it struck me as being a little strange since I've never heard of someone having their BP described as a "good" or "bad" year (so far...). Thanks for your reply Joy! Smile

My pdoc has never described me as having good or bad years. We have just adjusted meds as we go along to keep mania under control. I know this past year was more difficult but I've never heard her say that.

uppitywoman,

I'm doing better now and am hopeful that the new med changes/adjustments that have been made recently will work for awhile in keeping me episode-free. Thanks to you and others for your reply!

Welcome back Neon. My pdoc and I have gone through alot. I was hospitalized 7 times in one year. So we became very close. She mentions this everytime she sees me and tells me how good I'm doing.

Princess,

First of all, thanks for the welcome! It's good to be back! Smile

That's great that your pdoc tells you how well you're doing especially after the number of hospitalizations you've had. My pdoc told me not long after my diagnosis how difficult BP1 with rapid cycling/schizoaffective are to treat and so I think his comment may have been related helping me see reality which is why he encouraged inpatient treatment for me. I was fighting the urge not to go, but took it day by day. One thing I love about my pdoc is his honesty. If I'm doing well, he congratulates me. If I'm not doing well, he emphasizes with me and will be honest about changing/adjusting meds or recommending inpatient treatment. I've seen this pdoc for the past year and a half and am very pleased with him.
