Hi everyone. I have been taking Zoloft for nearly two years I think and it seems to be a decent drug for me, aside from the occasional collapse of my sanity. Today, I was prescribed Prozac and told to finish up my Zoloft and now substitute the Zoloft with Prozac. I have been on many drugs in the nine years, but Prozac is new to me. Can anyone give me an idea what it's like? Anyone like it or hate it? What should I expect and is there anything I should know about it from someone's personal opinion?

Thanks to anyone who replies!

Hi there

Were you told why they were switching you? SSRI's have a habit of pooping out on you so maybe that is why. I was prescribed prozac about 12 years ago before I was diagnosed with bipolar. It didnt work for me. I sure hope you have a better experience. Let us know how it goes.

I was prescribed Prozac before I was diagnosed and it didn't work for me either, but don't know how it would do with a mood stabilizer, it could work. I am on Lexapro and it works like a charm for me. Good luck to you and keep us posted with your progress!

You definitely need to listen carefully to your pdoc on this one (and all meds!). Prozac seems to be one of those drugs that works or doesn't. For me, it shot me up into the second most horrible and one of the longest manias of my life. BUT, they didn't put me on a mood stabilizer. Just be very aware of yourself.

I think I'll try the Prozac for a bit and if it unhinges me, I'll go back to my supply of Zoloft. Thanks for the feedback everyone!

I've been on prozac for going on 3 years. it works great for me. My anxiety was out of this world and i have deep depression. i tried other antidepressants and they didn't do anything for me. day 2 of prozac and i totally recovered. over the years i've had to up my dose a couple of times and recently my dr. added abilify because she didn't want to up my prozac anymore and i was going thru a very stressfull time which makes my anxiety and depression thru the roof.

I highly recommend this drug. like the others said, it doesn't work for everyone, and sometimes these can stop working over time. but if your one who it works for you'll be amazed at how much better you'll feel. it's been a life saver for me....literaly. good luck and keep us posted on how it goes :o)

Hello, I've been on Prozac for almost 9 years and it works very well for me.. I have never had a problem with it. I'm also on a mood stabilizer which is key for me. Being on just an anti depressant without a mood stabilizer is trouble for me.

I guess it doesn't work for everyone, but i have had nothing but a good experience with Prozac. I hope you also do well with it. Let us know how everything turns out. Good luck to you and have a great day!!!

You know, so far, the only thing I have noticed is a marked sense of drowsiness from the Prozac. I am going to keep taking it though until I am sure how I feel about it. I may go back to Zoloft, but for now, it's Prozac Prozac Prozac..... zzzzzz Wink
