Hello, I have a rather strange question. Recently, my girlfriend went through a rather tramautic experience, involving a state of delusion and ending with her in the hospital. Upon further inspection, she tested positive for amphetamines. However, she did not intake cocaine nor any other drug containing amphetamines. She also has been tested for being bipolar. Does anyone know anything about brain chemistry and potentially creating amphetamines without drug usage? And if so, does this have any sort of relation to bipolar disorder? Any information, advice, insight or anything would be wonderful. Thank you.

The only way for her to test positive for amphetamines is if she took them. So, like Gloria said NO.

The brain does not manufacture amphetamines. And amphetamine usage can make someone go into mania...its is like taking poison, especially if she had bipolar disorder.

Detox would be the best case senario for her...if she will go and decide to get treatment. good luck to you and her.

Welcome, and i am glad to hear she got help. A very important thing for those suffering from Bipolar Disorder, is regular, and healthy eating and sleeping habits. Especially sleep. Asleep in the PM, awake in the AM, is the most ideal, and REGULAR patterns. Amphetamine usage will destroy all of that, and the disorder will manifest itself quite badly. Amphetamine usage can have ravaging effects, on anyone, Bipolar or not.
