I am Grandmother of 12yr old Grandson who was recently

diagnosised with Bi-Polar/ADHD/Severe Impulsivity. Doctor is putting him on Trileptal and Aderall together, for mood and hyperactivity. Little concerned about giving him both as the Aderall works but it makes him not eat, sleep and irritable, but he can focus much better. We had wanted to do just the mood stablizer but Dr. said he needs both. Has anyone exerpienced this combo?

I am glad reports of no weight gain, he is a strong husky boy, but has high chestrol, but Dr. is aware of this too, says this way to go.

Thank you, I look forward to hearing from the group.

Maw

Hi, Welcome Maw...My son was diagnosed at 14 yrs old. Glad you have a good doctor for him and have a diagnosis. Please make yourself at home. Don't be shy. Ask questions and get involved. This is a great group of people, both with bipolar and who have loved ones who have it. I am both, having bipolar disorder and have a son with it too. My son is 26 now and is doing great, on meds, and leads a normal life.

Maw, welcome.

There are several here that are on a mood stabilizer along with other meds. My wife included.

Just hang in there, watch for the side effects as best you can, call the doc if you see something that bothers you. Give it a while to start working, some of the meds can take 4-6 weeks to begin working, some meds even longer, others are quicker acting.

GOD BLESS

RED

Hi, Maw and welcome, like Red said, just keep a open eye for something that isn't right, and alert the doctor if there is, it does take time for the medications to get into his system, so try and be relaxed.
