MDJunction to me

mabri"When I was diagnosed about 18 months ago with fibromyalgia, I didn't know where to turn. I got on my computer and looked for a support group where I could talk to other people with the same disease and get some help...Information, suggestions, mostly just what I can do now that I have this.....disorder/disease/syndrome...I didn't even know what to call it. I found MDJ, and yes, there was a support group for fibro. I started a post, and figured I would never get an answer. However, very quickly I was welcomed in, and became really involved in the group. I received help, support, friendship and the feeling of being truly cared about by these strangers who had become like family to me. Now, I have been here for about a year and a half...I have become a group leader, and love every minute of it. It is so wonderful to be able to help others. I still receive help and answers from the members in this group. The fibromyalgia is where I go to help, support, listen, care and even laugh. I don't know what I would do without this group." I feel like I'm going crazy! Yesterday I felt like I could do anything...now I feel like Im a complete failure and that there really isn't a point...I haven't been able to focus for what seems like months...which isn't convenient because I am a college student and kinda need to....I don't feel good without or without my meds anymore...I have no one to talk to. I am just tired. l;fkjlsdfkjds

Welcome to the group. I am so sorry about how you feel right now. I have felt like I was about to fall apart, too, at times. I am not a doctor, but maybe you are rapid cycling and that is really hard to deal with. You have someone to talk to here, we are here for one another. It might be a good idea to talk to your doctor about this because you might find another medication that will work for you and level you out. Also therapy could really help. Most colleges have therapists on staff and you could get free counseling there to help you. Both might really help you settle to a place where you can feel better. In the meantime, stay with us and get the support your need. WE are here for you and will help anyway we can. PM any group leader if you want.

If your meds are not working, it is vital that you get in to see a doctor right away. And I don't recommend a family doctor because they do not specialize in mental illness. If you can, I recommend seeing a Psychiatrist. Finding the right medication is a process and sometimes it takes time. But not seeing anyone at all will set yourself up for failure. Hang in there and go see someone right away!

there may be something else going on besides bipolar disorder. ADHD made my moods fluctuate like crazy and i was so confused as to why i was still having what i thought was rapid cycling even while consistently being on my meds, until my pdoc put me on a stimulant. made alllll the difference. the ADHD seemed to exacerbate the mania as well. you might want to ask your doctor about this. mood fluctuations are a big part of ADHD that a lot of people don't even realize is there, and since you are having the focus issues on top of it, it could be something that you should ask about. oh, and like 33% of people with bipolar disorder have ADHD.

also, are you staying on your meds consistently? because if you're on them, then go off them, then go back on them...that could explain why they aren't working.

p.s. feeling like i was "falling apart" was the EXACT words i used just a few days ago when the stimulant needed to be upped and i was having the mood fluctuations again.

I completely understand what you mean when you feel like your life is falling apart, because that has been my mood for the past few weeks and I am on my meds consistently, I see my pdoc and my tdoc regularly and I am on ADHD meds as well and nothing seems to be helping. All I can do is wake up each morning, pray it will be a better day and force myself to get out of bed and do something productive, even if it is something small.

I hope you can start feeling better and can get a lot of support here. I am new here, but I wanted you to know you are not alone.

How long have you been taking your meds? It may be that you need an adjustment, like others said.

I hope things look up for you soon. I'm new too but people have been very nice. Just keep coming back here, we're all here to listen.

We have all been there and done that, and continue to visit 'there' on occasion. It takes awhile to find your drug cocktail that works for you. Get plenty of rest, good diet, avoid caffeine and other stimulants (unless ordered by your pdoc, of course). We are here to help get each other through the rough patches.

I am adjusting to the new me on meds, part of me is still here, but part of me is new. It takes a while to get there though.

Best of luck, your pdoc should feel like an extension of yourself. Always be honest and straightforward with him/her so they can more effectively treat you , and get you to a place that is comfortable.
