I have to do a pre-employment drug test for a job that I really want, but I am so worried that my medication will prevent me from getting this job. I'm sure my vyvanse will make me test positive for amphetamine, and I don't know about my other meds. I would also test positive for benzos if they check that. This is so unfair Unsure. Has anybody dealt with this?

I am glad you started a thread about this. This has been on my mind as well. Most companies use a third party vendor to do their drug testing. The third party vendor usually has a form you fill out where you list the medications you are on. After the results come back, the third party vendor sends notification to the employer. I know ( atleast in my state) they tell the hiring company if you tested positive for illegal drugs. If you were using an illegal street drug, they would say yes. But they also have another category where they say prescribed medication was detected in the drug screening.

If it is done that way, then your medications should not prevent you from failing a drug test.

I hope this helps.

The casino HR departments used to call me and say "Uh, there's a discrepancy in your drug test. Can you bring in every prescription drug you take?" So I would and about a day later they'd call & tell me it was good to go. This is nothing to worry about.

Back in the day I wouldn't eat anything with poppyseeds on it or in it because it would show up on a random as opiates. Random drug tests, there's a violation. "Pee here. Put pee here. Don't wash, don't flush." Nice. Dru

I'm an Advocate

A company that I used to work with used to tell all of there employees when the tests were, so they could go out and buy those detox kits. I guess that those do work.

as long as you have proof that the meds are prescription, it shouldn't be a problem.

I agree with April. It has been my experience that when taking a drug test you are asked to list the medications that you take. You can even take in the bottles to prove it.

Yea I have to take it tomorrow so I think I'll bring in my bottles. So basically my new job is going to know I take prescription amphetamines? That can't look good. I'm scared to quit my other job until the results come back & I deal with the meds and everything is OK, but they want me to start in less than 2 weeks.

P.S. I have no idea how to quit my current job. The manager is extremely unprofessional so this could be a stressful and embarrassing ordeal. I was thinking of offering to work part time and then technically it's not a 2 week's notice..

Yeah you should be fine. They should give you a piece of paper with all the meds you take and just write honestly....then make sure you say its prescription. You will be fine.

Yeah drucilla over here on the poppyseeds there is a certain limit though that they will pass or fail. And lisa I believe those kits do work...I know when it comes to hair follicles the shampoo does work...had to use it on my room mate one time. Hehe

OK I took it and they didn't give me anything to fill out regarding meds. I asked them if they could record it and they said in the state of CA they wouldn't be able to disclose it to ANYONE anyways. So I guess I have to wait for someone to give me a call and ask me about it. I don't know if they are testing for 5 drugs or 10 but I hope it's just 5 because having to disclose I take controlled uppers and downers doesn't look good. The thing is all these drugs I'm on makes me a stable(ish) person and good worker. grrrrr

Take a list of all the meds you are on to the drug testing place and let them know that they are all prescribed medications. In my state they have to send something saying that the medications found in your system are the result of prescribed medications and not from illegal use....unless of course..they do find something illegal in your system or you can not prove that you are on certain meds that would make a test turn up positive.
