I need a mood stabilizer. I have tried, ready for the list - Lithium, lamictal, geodon, abilify, and seroquil. For a variety of reasons these have not been successful for me. Does anyone have any ideas or experience with anything? I currently am taking Topomax as my mood stabilizer but my pdoc is not convinced it is working nor am I.

Thanks

I am no dr, but I take Depakote. I have only been taking it for about 7 weeks when I was taken off Lithium. Seems to be working well for me.
My friends call me Dani.

Have you tried taking Omega-3? I don't think that it will control your moods by itself, but it might enhance a mood stabilizer.

My advice is purely personal. I am not a Doctor and there is NO substitute for getting proper medical diagnosis and advice.

Bipolar II, Depressed Severe

Lamictal 400 mg

I have not tried depakote or omega 3. My issue with depakote is the weight gain and i refuse to gain the weight. I have heard about the omega 3 and try to add it to my diet daily already. I might try the capsules, couldn't hurt.

You could ask your pdoc about Lamictal. If you have mania, Abilify is good at stabilizing that also.

I did take lamictal and got the rash. Yes it was horrible and I have a picture of it on my profile. It was head to toe. I was hospitalized for it but I loved how it made me feel "normal". Abilify did not allow me to sit still. Like I said, I have burned a trail through most of the standards.

I took tegretol for a while. It was ok. It was very inexpensive. It just makes you sleepy.

I took it (tegretol) at night. I think I want to go back on it. I passed out on triliptal. I don't know what dose I was on of the triliptal because I was in the hospital and I was taking it with risperdal. Those two put together, and you don't know your name. I am on the topomax and like it but I take 200mg at night and 25 mg during the day. I am also on wellbutrin like you but only 150.
