MDJunction to me

"I have been struggling with Fibromyalgia, Bipolar, Anxiety, Post traumatic Syndrome for quite some time and pretty much going it alone. I stumbled across MDJunction by accident. I stayed in the shadows and just watched for four days and then I joined, feeling relieved and excited to have found a safe place with alot of folks that I could relate to . It's proove to be medically and emotionally
helpful to me and now I can't go a day without coming in at least 4 or five times a day! I Love my family here.

My husband was in the hospital for 3 days, released yesterday, he was already taking serequel and abilify from his primary pdoc, but his pdoc didnt go to the hospital he was in and it was the only one with available beds at the time so the attending pdoc at the hospital has added 450mg of lithium 2 times a day, thats 900mg a day and also added lorezapam 0.5mg 1 a day, this is in addition to 100mg of serequel at night and 20mg of abilify, he seems like a zombie, we were thinking about him just taking his serequel and abilify that his regular pdoc has him on until we can follow up with his regular dr on Tuesday, he is so groggy, sleepy , dizzy, what do you guys think ?

Just stopping medication is NEVER a good idea. That can actually cause psychosis. I would seriously wait until Tuesday and let the doctor decide how and what to take less of.

This iisnt his regular pdoc, and he has never taken lithium before, we were just wondering if 900mg would be making him not function, he cant even go to the bathroom without almost falling down, maybe cutting the dosage down to 450mg a day until we see his regular pdoc..???

Stardust, lethargy is not uncomon with Lithium. Everyone is different and reacts differently to the meds. 900mg of Lithium isn't too bad, problem is they need to ramp people up on Lithium (and I don't remember the ramp up dosages when my wife took it). The max dose so I understand is 2500mg per day. 900mg right off the bat seems a little strong, best to call your regular pdoc (call pdoc's emergency line if ya gotta) and get input on what to do. Look up lithium and read up on it and it's side effects. By the way, they shoud be doing regular blood work on him, lithium can have detremental effects on the body (organs).

My wife cannot take lithium, her body will not carry enough of it in her blood stream to keep her in clinical levels. It is on my wife's ablsoluely not to be taken list, the doctors overdosed her on lithium trying to get her into clinical blood levels.

Keep checkin in, there are many here that take lithium and are very successful on it. They may be able to give you more insight than I have.
