I feel sorry that had to happen but hopefully the salary and benefits are good. And remember no one really likes their job they just put up with it for the money. Hope this helps

Hi Lobo, I am sorry that the day did not go as you would of liked it. First days are overwhelming, daunting and very stressful. I am sure part of the insecurity you feel is simply emotional drain. That doesn't mean you should ingnore your gut instinct.

You have a couple of options. You can, when you feel the time is right, tell the powers that be, "Hey, this isn't what we talked about. You promised a,b and c and this is not what is presenting itself. I guess if you are going to do that option the sooner the better. Simply to save yourself some distress. You can also hang in there awhile, get acclamated to the people and procedures and see if things really do turn into something you would like to continue. Somethings really do take time. I am assuming you are being pulled in about a jillion (is that really a number?) directions. First new job since diagnosis, adjusting to your new feelings etc. Hang in there, Lobo and give yourself some breathing room. Rome wasn't built in a day.

I really hope all of you know how much of a difference your words make. Somewhere betweeen the B and the P there's a small crevice that encouragement seeps thru and really does give hope. Thanks so much and I'm going to try and pull myself together and give it some more time.

Lobo- Don't give up. If the money is good, even if it isn't what you thought it would be like, they probably think you can handle this 'different job' as well.

If you really dislike it once you get into it further, why not just go on job interviews for other places as they come up?

My job is extremely stressful. The best way I cope is I completely forget about it when I leave the building each day. Once my foot is on that accelerator in the parking lot....ZOOM AWAY and don't think about that hellhole till my alarm clock goes off the next morning! LOL Anyway... that's my .02 & sample of my 'coping skills'

Good luck

It sucks big time to be looking forward to something, and then be let down. Happens soooooo much in life! I just hate that. I wanted so badly for your first day to be just perfect for you. You are such a good person. I wish I lived closer to ya, I would go kick their asses and tell them how dumb they are to treat such a good person like that!!!

Dear, dear Lobo, often the job seems so daunting to begin with. My hb had a terrible the last time and I was seriously worried about him and thought he was depressed. He is a perfectionist. Now he doesn't love the job but is happy he can take on the challenge. From my point of view I have always been so desperate to work, becuase it is where I derive my self esteem from, that I have a couple times worked from hospital, ie my employer didn't know I was in a psych hosp, and I would get in my uniform and walk around the corner to work. Another time my hb picked me up and drove my to another hospital. It was really, really hard but I always felt better at the end of the day. And some of the jobs I have had were awful, but I always felt good at the end of the day, walking out, having achieved something, having contributed. Just take each day, if you want to leave it behind either take a mental shower as you walk out the door, or screw up all the stress into a ball and mentally throw it into the waste paper basket as you leave.

Lobo: I think you're better off to try to keep at it for a while before deciding to quit. It may take some time to work into whatever it was you were hoping for.

As for engineers... the ones I'm working with are pretty much like IT people, except that they change their minds about how they want things done far more often! I just try to go with the flow.
