Finally, my g/f's pdoc came back to town. (She is not really a doc - she is a psychiatric nurse practioner.) Her father died, so she left for a week. Katy ran out of her antispychotic she called the office and their was a message with a different contact for emergencies. She called that woman. No one called her back. She then ran out of her lamitcal. She called again, a little more frantic this time, still no one called her back. Three days without any meds and I called, her nurse called me back and apologized. Wanted to see both of us we went on Tues. It was bizarre. The woman stopped Katy's medication. She said, well if you haven't been taking it then we will just start you on something new. If I hadn't BEEN there, I wouldn't have believed Katy if she came home with this story.

And this is the same person that when I called hysterical two months earlier said that in order to adjust these medications Katy would have to be hospitalized.

Anyway, they put her on a totally different medication that has to be built up. I said, um what about her auditory hallucinations? Can she just stop these other meds. Well, she says, that is why I will need to see her in two week.

Are you fucking kidding me?? As if we will both be a live in TWO WEEKS!!!

As predicted. It is not good. I could tell she was trying very hard to control it until last night and then it just all goes to shit. This is worse then BP - this is messing with the chemicals in her brain that are all screwed up. She is completely irrational. UGHGHGHG!!!!!!!!

I had an appointment with a new therapist for Friday, and a real psychiatrist for Monday. I had to cancel those appointments because it would have been $300. We used the $300 we had on the other two worthless appointments at the begining of the week and had an unexpected car problem that took a big chunk of money. I can't play with the mortgage....

Anyway, I rescheduled for the 11th with them.

I tried to not set her off. But it doesn't really work that way now. EVERYTHING sets her off.

Now I feel like we are back to the begining. Actually WORSE then back at the begining. Back and now she is screwed up from suddenly stopping her medicaitons. I just don't get it. How can they do that????? And after this SAME person said it was too dangerous just two months ago when she wasn't even on the higher doseage like she is now? Katy has been doing everything she was told. She goes to her appointments, she takes her meds (when she has them!) and she has been on board. In a matter of 24 hours, now she isn't and doesn't want anything to do with it. I KNOW she isn't rational, but how can she be right now?? I am so pissed. She is taking the new medication but of course, that isn't a theraputic dose so it's doing NOTHING!

I would be so pissed they would have had to call the police...ARRRRGGGG. That is frustrating as hell. You are right you need a real doctor that will respond appropriately. What idiots!!!!

I know. I am so upset right now. And Katy just texted me and told me to cancel the other appointments - she isn't going. I am telling you she is completely irrational. And without that antispycotic her voice must be running the show. This is surreal! THIRD therapist we have seen in a year. The first one misdiagnosed. This one just acts like she has a magic wand and her therapist she "talks" to is working closely with the second one. Fanfreakintastic.

What a nightmare...this is where the tough get going. If she is irrational because she hasn't stabilized then the ride is going to get a little bumpy again. Get her to go to the emergency room if she is psychotic. Explain the situation...Get on the phone with the idiots who blew her off and don't know what they are doing. Tell them that if she does not get immediate help you are going to contact a lawyer...she needs her meds...I would stay on the damned phone until someone responds.

Hey there, bejeweled.

I don't like what I am hearing one bit. Those are TERRIBLE treatment decisions. Being as she stopped her meds we'll try something new!?!?!??! You gotta be kidding me.

Bejeweled, if Katy is really psychotic, definitely take her to the emergency room. Maybe you and her should try insisting on being a bigger part of the decisions for her treatment. If the meds she was taking were effective, than insist on continuing with them. This is not the time to be experimenting with new meds. Don't take no for an answer.

I know it is hard, especially now that Katy is refusing treatment. Be as persistant as you can. It sounds like she isn't thinking rationally now.

pm me if you want to talk, ok???? And HANG IN THERE!!!!!

Paul

bejeweled- I am so angry at the moment. What you and Kathy are going through is completly unnessesary. First of I think that doc needs to be turned in to the medical board for what she has done. It is very dangerous to just stop taking meds. You are suppose to be wheened off of them slowly and replace with others. This doc lady seems like a freak. I am so sorry you two are going through this. If you need to or if you can take her to a state hospital. They deal with bipolar 8 hours a day everyday and they work on a sliding scale. If Kathy gets out there to far please check her in. She nor you deserve this. Jeanne

Bejeweled, that is ridiculous! I can't get over the lack of caring there is. I'm sorry she is going through this. I know the feeling. When I run out of meds, (or if I stop taking them), I feel just like a maniac or a blubbering idiot.

Another suggestion is to get her to the doctor well before she runs out of meds. Keeping a supply on hand is the only way to ensure that this doesn't happen. Ask her doctor for some samples to have on hand. Best of luck to you both!

Sounds like Katy's pnp should be evaluated for BP or something. That's outrageous and irresponsible. I'd take it to the state and local authorities. As another poster here suggested, the ER might be a good option. Good luck.

I replied that how the heck did she know how the hell I was supposed to react without being in my head??? They changed my meds anyway, it took 2 months to get me out of hosp...sometimes they jest never listen.Much, much, love Countrymouse

Well....she is now refusing treatment. I took Norma's advice and called the idiot that stopped her meds. She said take her to the hospital. Ok. Well she won't go to the hosptial. She called in a prescription for the anti psychotic. Unfortunately that would mean that Katy would need to TAKE it which at this point doesn't seem likely, since I am now the devil and she needs to get back to being herself. YIKES. This is a slightly worse self of hers but most certianly herself.

If, IF and trust me it won't be easy, if I can reason with her at all the psychiatrist we were going to see actually is the staff psychiatrist for the hospital. But she went to work at 4am is working until 4pm and has to be back at work by midnight. There is no way she is going to miss work for something so "silly." LOL! I know. It doesn't make sense.

And everything I thought about that nurse practioner was right....she is a MORON! Then she tries to play it off like it wasn't the sudden stopping of medication that was the problem, it could have been things coming up in therapy. WTF? She isn't her therapist, so she is just making this up. An excuse for a really dumb decsion. Anyway, she is going to be here in about an hour. I will try to see where her head is then.
