I love my dog a lot, little Chloe. I buy her the best food and keep her well groomed. Unfortunately in my sickness i have neglected her. I have unknowing let her teeth go bad because I was not brushing or checking her teeth. Between being manic and depressed I just didn't do it along with a lot of other things, but my dog is most important. she is suffering from periodontal gum disease and had to have 6 teeth pulled and now she is suffering greatly because of my problems, she deserves a much better owner than me, she is a good dog. She might have to have all her teeth pulled if the periodontal disease dosent get bettert. After this, I feel selfish talking about my problems, but I am rapid cycling almost instantly. I'm so angry with myself. My poor dog, I'm not worthy. I started drinking tonight to fight these feelings. angry 1 minute and crying the next.

What kind of dog is she? I know some dogs are pre-disposed to dental problems. Please don't beat yourself up over it. I can tell you love her.

She is a Schnauzer, and I do love her. Crying and typing.

Dave, please don't beat yourself up. I am a HUGE animal lover and you have now recognized there is something wrong and can correct it. Teri is right some dogs are prone to some issues. I for one was an Animal Cruelty Investigator and my Shep/Akita cross "Bagles" never had teeth problems I never brushed her teeth and my dad fed her cheese everyday LOL she lived until she was 14.

You deserve a dog, but at times with this illness you may need to ask for some extra help. There are many "Professional" dog walkers etc, dog poop cleaners, groomers etc. that can do those tasks when you are unwell.

You are not in an episode at all times and don't punish yourself or live your life like you are a BP episode. You're not none of us are. Beth

Yes, it's the little dogs with more dental problems, I think.

Beth is absolutely right. Many people never have to brush their dog's teeth. It has a lot to do with the breed.

My heart goes out to you.

My dog named Pepper is a Shetland Sheepdog and she is 12 yrs old. She had gingivitis when she was 6 so we had her teeth cleaned only the once. Now 6 yrs later she's 12 and i did not brush her, the vet told us her teeth were bad & that she needs another cleaning.

We don't have the money so we are just waiting until we do (and we just may never have the extra $) this breaks my heart too that her teeth may get worse over time.

I know shelties are known to have bad teeth.

So you are not all alone in this; try to enjoy your evening and be good to yourself you are worth it.

Remember we are here for you.

You are not broken - you are just currently going through a bad time. Things will get better again. Be patient, and remember, we are here for you.

I am almost done with my schooling to be Registered Vet Tech (think like a Nurse to animals) and you should not beat yourself up over this. There are plenty of people that don't brush their animals teeth. I don't even do it. As a matter of fact just about everyone I know (Veterinary Technicians and Vets, even) don't brush their dogs teeth.

Hope this helps you a little.
