I have avoided church for months because it is one of the places I have crying spells. Work used to be the other. I guess its due to the fact that my grandfather is sick and that they told me I had two weeks too change my personality at work to perky or I lose my job? I don't know about anyone else but this kind of stuff makes the mood swings worse. I especially hate the crying in public.

Before I got stable, I would cry all the time. People used to just leave me alone. I would try to control it so it was in the car or by myself.

Yes I've cried in public. Stores, at the gym. At the gym was the cutest because I had a 17 year old boy come up to me and ask me if I was okay because I was crying. So sweet, but I was embarrassed.

My best friend always tells me "think of poop".......it actually works! Beth

I am a very private person and usually can hold back the dam util I get to my car. I have sobbed uncontrollably at work. I do clean houses so I am usually alone in a room but have been busted a few times. Once my lady just sent me home immediately. One time everyone was gone at work and I just curled up into a ball on the landing between second floor and third and rocked and sobbed. This for me is deep deep depression so I am sending healing thoughts your way. Don't be embarrassed, 99.9% of the people who see you cry you will never see again and I am sure they are sympathetic to a heartbroken person anyway.

I'm also a private person, I have cried in front of my family plenty of times before. And in a lot off my crowded places. It's really embarrassing but I just can't seem to hold it back.

I'm not BP but am currently depressed due to my husband leaving and the death of friend. As first, I was embarrassed about crying in public but I have accepted sometimes my emotions the the best of me and that's life. If I need to cry, I'm going to cry. When I see someone upset in public, I think, “that person is going through something difficult and I hope they are OK”. I'm just going to assume that's what people think of me. If they aren't what do I care? I still don't like doing it but don't beat myself up over it. I am, however going to talk to my Dr to see if my Zoloft might need to be upped.

Lisa1976, As far as crying in church I don't think you should stop going because of that. I often feel overwhelmed there as well, no matter how "stable" I am.

As far as work if there is somewhere you can slip out and go to privately that would be ideal. It may also be a sign that your meds need to be adjusted, or you need some extra therapy due to your grandfather's sickness that's a big stressor. Beth

I have cried in church. It's kind of embarrassing, but at the same time, I think most people understand that spiritual things can affect us greatly. I have also cried a great deal in my car to avoid being seen. Is feels like a safe place for some reason.

I also have cried at church, this happens very rarely. Also i was on the city bus & was thinking of my Dad who passed away last May and started to cry very hard, i was a bit embarassed but knew this was part of the grieving process. When i arrived at my volunteer job i still cried and finally stopped. The hairdresser consolled me somewhat.
