I've heard that bipolar gets worse as you age. Well, I read about it in articles.

Has anyone here actually witnessed it with their spouse?

I know my husband started acting funny early 2008. By early 2009 he escalated to doing all sorts of things that were uncharacteristic. Seems like a big change in a short time. Now, he's really unreasonable.

Any way to know how much worse it will get?

I doubt you can know that. How can anyone? It does get worse. His dr told me that for a fact. Unmedicated is a nightmare.

With each new episode there is more damage done to the frontal lobe of the brain. That means that each successive episode manic/deppressive lasts much longer. The earlier a person starts a med protocol the less damage will occur during an episode.

My last deppression lasted two years complete with serious suicidal ideation. I underwent major therapy and tried a wide variety of meds for my "perfect new cocktail".

Managing BP is a lifelong process. My husband and I take it one week at a time.

my husband's dr's said it does get worse as they get older and I can say yes it does. My husband is not on his meds and this time it is on going now for 8 months. And now he lives in his car. It started getting really bad at the age of 38. I just pray that he gets on his meds again.

I have also read that it get's worse with age. Not sure how true that is.

I have heard stories of the terrible thing Jack did in his younger years but how much of that was BP and how much was just the "bad boy" in him? Don't know.

I have only been with him for 5 years, that is probably not enough time to notice if he has gotten worse. I know I have grown less tolerant.

Worse, better, mild, manic, it's all BP and it's all bad.

My memory is shot and I'm so clumsy-I'm an accident just waiting to happen.

My husband was referring to my driving and I attribute my driving success to just staying off the road all together.
