Hey Sue,

My name is Jeff. I lost a best friend bipolar and substance abuse to suicide or overdose. I'm bipolar also, and many I care about are bipolar. I'm not sure about family.

Any way I just joined a few minutes ago myself and I'm glad that we are both here.

I lost my brother in law 4 yrs ago to alcohol poisoning. He died in my arms. I hope my husband doesn't do a repeat performance. I was diagnosed with panic disorder and post tramatic stress disorder 6 months after his death. I lost 50 pounds and had constant nightmares and spells of panic where I couldn't even breath. I was on Zoloft for a year after and of course my husband being manic depressive has been twicking in and out of personalitys worse than ever ever since. I don't drink or do drugs EVER. I am a pharmacy technition and a quality control manager. How funny is that? I can't even control my own personal life.

Hi, Susie!

Welcome to the group. There are a lot of us here riding that roller coaster. It does seem that our own life sometimes gets out of control and it's hard to hold it together. We're here for you if you need someone to talk to.

Hugs,

Terri

Hi Sue.

Welcome to our little world of advise, support and understanding. Many "experts" here to lend a shoulder to lean on whenever you need.

As a bipolar significant other, I feel lucky. Many, like you have ridden the roller coaster throughout their relationships, but my fabuluous wife, Karen, was basically stable throughout our 20 years together, UNTIL last fall. Unbeknownst to me, she quit taking her meds last spring, and by the fall was so manic she couldn't go to her job as a teacher. She was hospitalized 6 times and always discharged because she was "stable". Yea, right, stable. Inbetween hospitalizations, she fled me and our children, spent like a millionaire, portrayed me as abusive, cheated once, etc, etc, etc. Anyway, on the last hospitalization, the found the right medication combination, and the mania, delusions, and paranoia are COMPLETELY gone. She is home, stable and going back to work in the fall. And, our relationship has returned, and is probably stronger than ever. Karen seems to be a bipolar who cycles VERY SLOWLY. She had a huge episode in her early 20's (before I met her) and this most recent episode in her mid 40's. Besides that, total stability. (i'm hoping it stays that way!)

Anyway, how are you? Do you still have the nightmares or the panic spells, or have they faded with time? How is you husband doing? Is he seeking treatment, taking any meds, in any therapy?

Feel free to come and visit us here any time you like.

Paul
