Wow - I guess I should have found you guys a while back before I got so desperate. My 28 year old bipolar daughter and 8 year old granddaughter live with me. It is soooo hard because a bipolar child is a person you can never leave, no matter what, no matter how much pain they cause you. You can divorce a husband but not a daughter, so I worry that I will never ever have much of a life, and that the knot in my stomach will never go away.

Nspittillo: Never too late to make new friends... Is your daughter medicated? Seeing a pdoc? Going for therapy? Tell us more about your situation and we will try to help. God bless you for hanging in there.

Not enough money to see doc very often -- no insurance. She is on depression meds only. Tried Depacote couple of years ago but she wouldn't stay on it because it made her gain so much weight. We would have been able to do whatever she needed; however, she has cost the family so many thousands of dollars in the past year that there is none left for treatment. I know that sounds awful, but we're talking almost $50,000. She has torn our financial condition into ruins. She's trying to get a job but not very hard. She has been living with me for two and a half months and I'm her full support - financial and otherwise. I've never been a selfish person before but now I wonder what is going to happen to ME ! Thanks.

Nspittillo: There are many new drugs available to try now. Antidepressants alone are usually not enough for someone who is BP. She also needs a mood stabilizer, and perhaps anti-anxiety meds. If your financial situation is as desperate as it sounds, she should qualify for medicaid, and that will help her with pdoc visits and the cost of the meds.

Is she more depressed or manic?

As for not having a job, I would suggest that you set some ground rules if you have not already done so. If she is going to stay with you, she must contribute something financially.

She is better with her rages now that she is living with me - only a few outbursts - extremely depressed - "working" on getting a job - for three months now. I set down groundrules today. I will check with Medicaid also. Thanks for the support.
