I am going to take my mom to her new doctor's appointment tomorrow. In the past i have always been there for her, but from a slight distance. My Aunt has been her biggest suppoter in terms of research, decision making, monitoring, etc... My mom is now living with us, (my husband and my 5 month old baby girl). She is wonderful with the baby and being with her seems to help keep her from going to deep in to depression. My mom has also asked that I help her from now on. I am more than happy to do so, i just want to do it with the best of my ability.

Do any of ya'll have any suggestions on questions to ask the doc, medications, ways of dealing with her in times of mania.

luvmymom, the best advise I can give is to take one day at a time. Not knowing what her cycles are like I do want to remind you to take care of yourself and your immediate family (hubby and child).

Does your husband understand what the two of you are getting into with mom living with you? I would advise helping him and yourself learn all you can.

As always we are here anytime you need to talk.

GOD BLESS

My husband and I have been together for over 10 years, so he has gotten to know my mother very well. She just sold her house and doesn't really have anywhere to go right now until her new home is built. So this is not permanent, though her new house is going to be an apartment we are building for her above my horse barn.

Her episodes are coming a lot more often and I feel like she needs some one close by. This way, she can have her own apartment yet not really be living ALL alone.

I don't know, I'm just trying to hold on to her as hard as I can. My Dad died a year ago, and I am so afraid of loosing her. When in her episodes she is told by God not to eat or drink. Years ago, when this was new to us, she had gone for almost 20 days before any of us saw her and realized there was something terribly wrong going on. I can't let her kill herself for the voice in her head.

When you talk to the doctor tomorrow tell him everything that is going on with her. Make a journal and track events, take it with you to the doctor. It will show exactly what is happening and when.

I take it she is going to allow you to go into see the doctor with her.

They make lots of new medacines now that help with less side effects. The meds are such a blessing. Once the right cocktail is found it makes all the difference.

Forgot to ask, how old is MOM?

GOD BLESS

My Mom is 58. Yes she is going to allow me to go in with her to see the doctor. She asked me to help her, and I told her I would as long as I can get all the info i need to help me help her. The one thing about my Mom is that she cannot lie. If I ask her if she has taken her meds she tells me the truth. If I ask her if she is hearing God she also tells me the truth. I am thankful for that.

Hi luv. I am also 58 and have been BP & or PTSD for as long as I can remember. With the right psychiatrist and the right meds (which will take up to a month to reach therapeutic levels in her blood), and a good therapist that she likes and trusts, she can live a near normal life like me. I wish you all the luck in the world.

Gloria
