I am bipolar. was diagnosed about 5 yrs ago. I stay on my meds and see my pdoc reguarly but still struggle with mania and depression. As I look back I realize I was bipolar even as a teen but never knew what was wrong with me. I have psychotic episodes where reality is lost and then depression soon follows soon after I make it through the psychotic episodes. I am very tired of the struggle of the disorder. I didn't start having the psychosis until after the birth of my son. I was put on antidepressants for post partum depression and that brought on my first psychotic episode. I ended up divorced because my husband couldn't deal with it and I have very little support. It is scary and frustrating and I often feel like giving up. [img]

Hey, welcome to ya BP2. Well you might have had a lot of old baggage with ya ,,the good thing is you got rid of a big chunk of it when the ex left!!! lol I think you probably need some med changes. How often do you see your shrink?? I see mine about every 3 months, but my therapist about every 2 weeks. Do you have a therapist?? Now that is what keeps my head out of the water. I tell her everything and she lets me!!! lolol Then she helps me look at options for my problems.. We already love ya BPD2 cause now you're one of us...

I see my shrink once a month sometimes he changes it to once a week depending on how I am doing. Yes, I also have a therapist. She seems to be stunned by the delusions I have when I am manic. I am not so sure she knows how to handle that part. I have some real out there experiences. I am always afraid of the when the next one will hit. We are in the process of some med changes so I've been going in frequently. So far no mania but depression hit like a bomb along with anxiety attacks. Now I am on meds for anxiety also. I seem more stable now but the depression rears it's ugly head pretty often. I haven't ever had it this bad. My doc is hesistant to do any med changes that are too drastic because of the mania. It's sort of a slowly adjusting and see what happens type situation. Not much fun when you just want to feel well.

your situation sounds alot like my wifes. she too sees alot in her past, looking back. and she didn't have any real problems until after the birth of our son and...was put on anti-depressants for post partum and bingo...had the first 'episode'. it is a terrible thing you have been through, i know. also, i know how hard it must've been for your husband, i am sorry to hear you're not together anymore.

for my wife, the anxiety/depression were agrivated by anti-phycotic meds and we bounced up and down because of this and the anti-depressants. in the end, she got off all that other stuff and has found lithium works very well for her.

i hope you the best as you continue to work it out. it is difficult. but, once you know which meds work right for you, then life will get better.

BPD2, don't give up, never give up! The meds take a while to work, your doc sounds like he is doing things the right way... a little at a time. You keep going, you will find the cocktail that is right for you and when you do it will make all the difference. It took my wife 7 years of working on the meds before she was able to find stability. Once she has the last year has been wonderful.

We are here to talk anytime you want.

We are here for you, You are not alone!

Oh my Red, what is your secret for being so patient with your wife for 7 years? Please share!!! I truly do not want to abandon my husband- I agreed through sickness and health but.....I don't know how much longer I can take the manipulating, paranoid accusations, angry outbursts and everything else. How do you do it?

mehere, don't take the maifestations personally. I married my wife very young, we grew up together. She is as much a part of me as any limb is. No, I am not blind to my wife's illness.

Learn as much as you can about bipolar disorder. Start recognising the manifestations and you will better be able to deal with them in a logical and positive way. Do not fight with them, you will not win.

You as the spouse, you know this person better than anyone else on the planet. You know who they really are, beyond the symptoms. Love them for who they are.

I seek therapy for my self as needed. Keep yourself both physically and mentally healthy.

I also have a personal relationship with GOD. It is in Him that I find peace during the storms. He is my strength.

I am here to talk any time you want, you can PM me too if you want. I am here for you, YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

God Bless

RED
