MDJunction to me

grandmasylvia"MDJ has been "a soft place to fall" for me as Dr Phil says. I have this very painful rare disease Dercum's Disease and take comfort in finding others here who share their knowledge and compassion. Many
members have helped me just by understanding my anguish and validating
my pain. We are working together to encourage research toward a cure.

Hi, Connie. Welcome to the site. Glad you found us.

I am sorry you are going through such a hard time, and hope we can be of some help.

My husband has bipolar, so I can't relate exactly. But I do teach children with special needs. It must be very hard to watch your son go through this.

I like people until they give me reason not to, she said. Some days they just drop like flies, though, she added. - Brian Andreas

My daughter (and wife) are both bp and I know it can be hard, espically with kids. Is she on meds?

I understand. My son is eleven years old and it is certainly difficult. Getting as much knowledge as you can about the disorder is probably one of the key things that kept me from losing it. Doesn't mean I am not tired. Adolescents and children are already challenged when it comes to recognizing and dealing with their emotions. Throw uncontrolled mood swings in the mix and you have a serious challenge. I have to remind myself many days that it's not my son but the disorder that I deal with. I have to remind myself that he needs my help and if I lose it, where will he be. I have to be there for my other children as well. Part of this disorder is that the child requires constant monitoring from the behaviors, moods, medications, etc. It can be very draining. Get rest when you can. Find support, you will certainly need it. My husband and I are at a place where we feel very uncomfortable going out now because his manic episodes are serious for my 16-year old. It is a learning process and we must continue to gather whatever information we can to help our families, ourselves included. You are in my prayers.

Hi Connie,

I have 4 kids also. My oldest daughter is 20. She has bipolar. I know it is tough so hang in there. I think that all of us that you talk to have been through a lot.I know I have been through so much with my daughter that if you told me a few yrs. ago about it I never would've imagined all of it. It is what it is. You just have to take it day by day. Each day that passes and it was a good day with nothing eventful as far as our bipolar family members , that is great. God Bless. Hope to talk to you again.Smile
