MDJunction to me

MissNikkiAnn"When you have an illness with the name "Non-Familial Dysautonomia" (a name that most people, and even doctors, have never heard of), you need a network
of people who understand the name and the symptoms/issues that come with it.
MDJunction led me to that network of people during a very confusing and sickly time. For this I am thankful. And for this reason I try my best to give back to other members the same care and help that I received through MDJunction.

Not sure if I am suffering from this but from what I have read it feels like it. I have been taking Xanax to try and keep calm but don't want to rely on pills. I found my son face down in a pool of vomit in my kitchen a few weeks ago. He is a herion addict and overdosed. I thought he was dead. Since then I can't sleep, when I do I have nightmares, I keep replaying the scene in my head when I found him, I panic when I can't reach him. I feel like this is consuming my life. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I am so sorry for what happened. What a terrifying thing to what walked in on. It sounds to me that the wisest course of action to take is to see a therapist and talk about it. If you are diagnosed with PTSD, it might be that you would need medication, at least for a while to help you while you work through it. You don't need to live like this. PIlls aren't going to heal you. Time and therapy will help. But medication can reduce your anxiety and that is what you need. Don't think of it as relying on it. Think of it as needing a crutch while your broken leg gets better.

I am sorry you are going through this. I can understand you stand on drugs. But look at it like this Medications are not street drugs. A diabetic (usally) doesn't say "I need to shoot up." they say "It's time for my insulin".

So you might need medication and some talk (therapy) to get you through this. Even the strongest person knows there are times to ask for a little help.

relying on prescription drugs for you to get better is ok..just use carefully.
