The effects of grief are very different than the effects of trauma.

THE EFFECTS OF GRIEF

1) Sadness is the dominant emotion.

2)Grief feels real.

3)Talking about grief can help.

4)Pain is related to the loss.

5)Anger is nonviolent.

6)Guilt involves unfinished emotional business with deceased.

7)Your self-image and confidence generally remain intact.

8)You dream about person you lost.

9)Symptoms lessen naturally over time.

THE EFFECTS OF TRAUMA

1)Terror is the dominant emotion.

2)Trauma feels unreal.

3)Talking about trauma is difficult or impossible.

4)Pain involves not just loss, but terror, helplessness, and fear of danger.

5)Anger often involves violence toward yourself or other.

6)Guilt includes self-blame for what happened or thoughts that it shoild have been you who was harmed.

7)Your self-image and confidence are distorted and undetermined.

8)You dream about yourself in danger.

9)Untreated symptoms may get worse.
