Hi everyone, I am new here. I haven't had a chance to read any posts yet but I have been diagnosed with several bulging discs in my back. I was told to lose weight and it would help. Ok that is nice if I could lose weight. I am sure if I could exercise without so much pain, yeah it would help...but the meds I am on for other problems has made me gain over 20 lbs in the last 3 months. Anyways I am on darvocet for the pain in my back, it helps some but not much anymore. Does anyone have any suggestions I can take to the doctor for weight loss and for my back pain that is not expensive. The doc wanted to put me on weight loss med called phert....something...I don't remember the name of it but I am on welfare disability medical coverage for now. Any advise would be great. Thank you and God bless.

Hi and welcome to our group! I know what you mean. I was told, lose weight, it will help your back. OK, well I have tons of stuff wrong with me and it is hard to exercise, I really dont eat that much at all, just inactive and it is HARD to lose the weight.

The only thing that worked for me in the past and now I cant take it because of my heart conditions is Meridia. I lost 40 lbs on it.

Also a lot of ppl have tried Xenical which is now Alli over the counter. It blocks fat absorption.

Honestly one other med that helped me lose weight and thankfully I am going back on is Topamax. I lost quite a bit on it too.

Good luck. Hope your back is better.

Thank you for the reply. I am the same as you I have several things wrong with me that make it nearly impossible to exercise and I eat maybe one meal a day. Sometimes 2 depending onwhat I am doing, who I am with, and how long I have been awake...lol Topamax is for migraines aren't they? My sister was taking them but she didn't lose a whole lot of weight on them. The meridia is that over the counter or prescribed, is it listed as a weight loss pill? My medical does not cover weight loss meds that is why I am asking. But thank you for the information. I hope you are feel better. Love Sally

Sally, Meridia is a prescribed weight loss drug. I was lucky, when I had insurance, for some reason it covered it. If you dr gives you something, pls let me know what it is! I could use some!
