MDJunction to me

Sylvia4648"I have suffered from depression most of my life, but had some long, non-depressed times. The last 16 years have been an on-going, constantly worsening nightmare for me medically, socially and with my family. 11/2008 to the present has been the worst time in my life, and new things just keep piling up. During that time I’ve gone from being mostly homebound to being totally homebound due to the errors of about 2 dozen doctors who overmedicated me so badly that I came home w/ 4 conditions I didn’t go in with. I spent months wanting to die, and finding MDJ may well have saved my life. It’s one of the worst feelings to know that nobody on earth needs you for anything; but now that I’ve been a group leader for awhile, there are people here who need me. Thanks MDJ." (Sylvia4648)

Hello, my name is Kara and I'm new to the group. I was in an auto accident 3 years ago. I have had 2 spinal surgeries with more in the works. I still have several badly herniated discs, as well as stenosis.

Welcome. Sorry to hear about your pain. Hope you have a good surgeon who you trust and are happy with the result of your prior surgeries. Are you part of a PM program?

I do like my surgeon, and the 2 surgeries that I've had were successful. I have ongoing pain because there's too much work to do for 1 surgery! Right now my surgeon says I need another disc removed, but I have Lupus which is flaring badly right now so I can't have surgery until it's more stable. What is a PM group?

Hi KDH,

Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry you're suffering so terribly. It's horrible to be in pain and know you have to basically suck it up and deal!

I'm glad you like your surgeon. It's worse to be in pain and not have a good relationship with your doctor(s). I hope your next surgery goes well. Lupus is very difficult to deal with in and of itself. I have several friends with the condition, and I know it's not an easy road!

A PM group is a Pain Management group--a group of doctors or a doctor who handles your pain, gets your your pain medications. Sometimes this is handled through the doctor who takes care of your lupus, in your case, or it may be your surgeon. It depends, with each of us, who will manage our pain. For me, it's my neurologist, as I have Fibromyalgia, CFS, migraines, and several other conditions, and my neurologist is a pain management specialist, so he handles my pain. For you, it might be different, tho. Many of us coming here have other issues, and we each may have different doctors who are our PM teams.

I hope you'll find this a welcoming and helpful group of people! If you need anything, feel free to post here, or let me know if there's anything I can do for you!

Hugs,

jen Smile

I'm not a doc, so anything I say is my opinion only. Nothing I say is meant as offense, I offer what I can as help. I believe in educating myself on all my medical issues and being my own advocate, for no one else with do that on my behalf. I recommend we all do the same!

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Perhaps I truly am insane for expecting these docs to listen to me when I say the same things repeatedly to no avail? LOL. I am tired of seeking out new docs and getting the same result time and again...Forgive me if I seem bitter some days.

Ah yes, I do have a PM. Sorry I wasn't familiar with the abbreviation! I also have Fibromyalgia, Myosistis, Asthma, Arthritis and Osteoperosis, so pain is nothing new to me! Back pain is awful though!!! I've had 2 surgeries as I said. I wish we could do the next one right now! I'm so sick of having to walk all bent over! I have an appointment at the University of MN medical center on Jan.21. My Rheumotologist referred me there because I'm not improving. Hopefully thay'll figure something out so I can get back on track here! THEN I'll be able to schedule surgery. Tomorrow I'm having injections in my back done. I've had them several times before and they haven't helped, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they will help at least a little bit!!!

Hi, Kara, Sorry Life is so hard right now- though it sounds like it has been this way for awhile for you! I hope finding this site makes it a bit easier. I have found that just having others that are on the same journey as I am and can relate has been really helpful for me- when the day has been really bad it helps to know that there are others I can chat to Smile Good luck with your injections tomorrow I will be thinking about you.

Thanks so much! Yes, it really does help having this group! No one around me really can comprehend what I'm going through, it's hard to understand unless you've been through it! Many people seem to think that if they've ever strained their back or pulled a muscle, then they know what I'm feeling... But that's so far from true! Disc pain is so far beyond the pain of muscle pain it's unbelievable! I appreciate your support!!!

Hey Kara,

How did your injections go today? Are you feeling any better at all? You're probably sore today, I'd bet--I know most people say they are sore the first day and maybe the day after, but then the injections might help. I know you said you usually don't find them helpful, but I'm also crossing my fingers for you.

I'm glad you're finding the support group to be helpful. I know MDJ has been a real lifesaver for me! I would agree that disc pain is FAR worse than muscular pain. Yikes!

I hope you're doing well by now--please update us when you feel able!

Hugs,

Jen Smile

Hi Kara, How are you doing after your injections- I hope all went well... And I too agree that disk pain is completely different than muscle pain. Some times someone will come in to work and be complaining that they slept wrong and their neck hurts and they might go home cause it hurts so much I have to work on controlling my face so my eyes don't roll into my head! I know everyone experiences pain differently, but sometimes I find myself wanting to just say OH please suck it up you are fine. Sorry I've had a really bad few days and not feeling so positive... Anyway hope you will be feeling better soon! I hope that you are able to baby yourself a little and give your back some time to recover.

They went fine, they were alot more painful this time than they have been previously, maybe that means they actually hit the right spot? It was excruciatinf pain all the way to my foot! I'm keeping my fingers crossed too, because with my previous injections I also had L-5 shoved forward pinching off the nerves. Steroids won't help that! This time it is just herniation, so maybe it will be more effective!Smile
