About a month ago, I figured I needed to see a new doctor for my back because I was breaking through all the medications I was taking.

A very close friend of mine, who has the same back issues, and even had surgery which really didn't work, suggested I see a neurosurgeon...

so I did, and let me tell you, this guy was a waste of time. He walked in and didn't even introduce himself or his assistant. First thing he said was,"...what would you do if I told you there was absolutely nothing I can do for you?" I simply said, "...I would be as frustrated as I was when I walked in here..." The long and the short of it is he told me to stay away from surgery and changed my muscle relaxer to Soma, from Flexeril and told me to come back in three months...I am not going to go back to him...it's too much money and time, to hear the same old story again...

Maybe I should just go to a pain specialist, what do you all suggest?

What kind of diagnosis did you get for your back? Did you have MRIs done....? I have had back problems for well over 8yrs and last year had surgery to fuse my L5S1 disc cause there was only 7% left. Before that I saw a pain managment doc who sent me to therapy and I had injections done. I was turned down twice by same doc for surgery then went to another doc who is highly rec. in my area and he just looked at all my reports and said you need surgery. My fiancee (husband now) and I spent a good hour plus in his office.... I love this guy he was great. Need more info on you back probs....

I have disc degenerative disease, stenosis, arthritis, slight herniation in Cervical disc I think it is two there...L4 is degenerating two years ago there was 70% of disc so hoping it wont go further...You should check into a pain management doc they will guide you....have you had therapy or injections yet?

I would be mad too. Dont you hate it when you think you may finally be getting some help and a doctor comes in like that, like nothing is wrong, and give you a few prescriptions!? That is ludicrous!!

when i told him that my flexeril was knocking me out during the day and i could barely function, his response was, "...who cares? if you are not able to work, why should it matter how much you function during the day...you can lay on the couch all day and let the flexeril do what it has to..."

WHAT!!?? He said that!? What a moron. Does he think that just because we are in pain and we do not work, we want to live in a fog all of our lives? We want and deserve a quality life! Ooh that would have made me so mad!!

I have a couple of pills that I take that make me loopy during the day, and I refuse to take them on the days I am seeing my grandson, who is 18 months old. I will just live with the pain on those days. So I am guessing you are finding a new doctor??
