Just wondering what sort of OT any of your children have, and what was the evaluation process like? My 6 year old is going for an evaluation in mid June and want to get him ready (asperger's).

Hey! Sorry no one replied sooner for you! My son's OT basically observed him playing and doing different activities. She also asked me a lot of questions regarding his gross and fine motor skills.

We learned that he has "proprioception issues" where he has problems with balance and is very clumsy. He has a hard time recognising his body in relation to space. (IE: When he first started spoon feeding himself, he had to really focus on where the spoon was going when lifting it into his mouth, he would often miss and spill it everywhere)

He also has Sensory Processing Disorder, where he has a high pain tolerance, often will be more rough when touching or hitting things bc it's almost like he can't feel it, UNDERsensative to touching sensations, and he likes to dump things out on the floor like toys bc of the visual sensory input he gets.

She has him doing strengthening excercises (he has low tone-hypotonia) and so we are building strength in upper body by having his lay on this beller with weight on his elbows to strengthen his arms like playing with puzzles etc or watching tv, we do squatting excercises (in a play based format) and also have begun doing joint compressions, which send sensory info to brain, to make them more aware of their body in relation to space) it seems to be helping!

If you have any other questions feel free to PM me anytime!

Yes, DS loves the mini trampoline, and I never connected the playground with Gross motor practice but that is so true!
