I wanted up date all those who were very supportive with my issue of my 3 year old and having to spend more than his already 1 hour and 1/2 commute to school via bus for the next school year.

I did attend the SECAC (special education citizens advisory council) meeting yesterday and in attendance was the Director of Special Education for my county. Prior to this meeting, I contacted the local paper and was on the front page within 48 hours of contacting them. While the article stated both sides (seemed more so with the school district) the reporter did quote an important statement I had mentioned to her. I want to remain in good standing with the press. At least the word was out that the parents are were not happy.

In addition, I emailed my state senator, commissioners and even a well known advocate attorney that the school districts knows.

I would say, I was the most held back parent of all in attendance of the SECAC meeting. Fireworks indeed!! The parents received an apology from the director for the lack of communication over this whole issue. The Director admitted the move for the preschool to be further away from a central location was not a good decision. She said it was her fault for not putting in the budget for more portables. We suggested that some of the Infants and Toddlers offices should move into the further location as it is taking up valuable space that could house more students in the current location. I also reminded her that the district is increasing its chances for liability for medical emergencies being so far away from me and the majority of the parents. There is not a resolution for the grade K/1 Autism class as of yet, she was meeting with the Superintendent immediately following our gathering. I am awaiting word regarding that k/1 class.

My son will still be on a bus for that very long time but at least his next pre-school year will not be further away.

So I would say it is a wash.

Thanks again to all who were so supportive.

I wish each and everyone of you a very special Mother's Day!!!

Wooooo Hoooooo!!!!

Unfortunately, we parents don't always (in fact probably never) get 100% of what we want, for our children, from the school system.

Thankfully, your son's situation has not worsened. Keep up the good work and perhaps, in the near future, he might actually be attending a school within a reasonable distance/travel time, from your home.

Thank you for the update.

Happy Mother's Day to you as well.
