MDJunction to me

tomboykimi"What MD Junction means to me is a place where i can feel like im not alone. As someone with something as rare as hydrocephalus, it feels like im the only one in the world with it. When i came to MD, its like everyone has it. It doesnt feel like im alone. And that people need to hold up a sign to say what i have, because people know. And they understand. I can get questions answered from people who have been through it rather than from doctors or people who only can tell you from a physical standpoint. THat is what MD junction means to me." Hi all,

I am new to the group and wanted to tell everyone hello. I am a mother of a child thats on the autism spectrum. I have tried to learn so much about autism. As that can be overwhelming itself. We started our journey at 1 1/2. It's been a journey with many obstacles and bumps, but we never forget that the sun never stops shining and we are blessed to have such a wonderful child. I am looking just to learn more about autism and meet some that I know will understand. Well, I new to this site so, I will take some time to navagate around. Chat at ya laterSmileTongue

It is so good to see a Mom who is so positive. I am new to all of this, and determined to beat this thing! My son is going to be 3 in Feb. He has beenin early intervention for about 3 months. His progress is unbelievable, but inspite of everything, he was still diagnosed the week before Christmas.

Tongue Take each day as it comes. Sometimes there are silver lineings behind dark clouds. Try not to project too far ahead. Just handle today and try to make it positive for the child. Do teach child. That is what allowed Tony to be able to live alone. The more you can teach your child /allow your child to learn to do, the better. One day he will need skills. Tony learned early to make his own bed, wash his own clothes, cook simple things with my supervising the cooking..now those skills that some critized me for teaching him, are in place and he is living alone and loving it. When it comes time that I have to go, Tony will be able to stay out of institutions. He can shop for his groceries alone now also. At first, I was right by his side as he chose his groceries, not doing for him, but as a guide, explaining why this or that was not a good purchase, ( example store brand is cheaper and just as good son, perhaps you would like to choose that one instead of this one which is expensive ) I was there to allow him to ask questions..which should I choose mom, is this a good purchase? )until today he is proficient and he rarely needs my input.

I was on prodigy early on and got critical remarks for making my poor son do for himself to the extent that he could, but I would do it the same way again.

It worked well for Tony and he felt needed too. Now, he loves to help me cook Thanksgiving day meals. That was always special time for me and him.

Hope this helps someone.

MJ
