They may not necessarily grow out of it, but they can learn to adapt and overcome their struggles. My brother is 19, has autism and has overcome a lot in his life to fully function in society. There are still certain things he does (i.e. cannot stand the feeling of chalk... or even just explain certain things) that you know he's autistic or at least something there.
